How can I distinguish these 2 models. I went to look at one but it didn't state model on the action just said Pro-target FT. I am told it is a Mk 3. Does anybody know what markings it should have on it or any other way I can tell for sure?

Thanks

Peter

If you can get the serial number try asking Air Arms.
They can be most helpful.
If it's been back to them for servicing they will have a sevice history as well.

I was told that the Mk2 had a shrouded barrel but mine is a Mk2 with Mk3 reg and has no shroud.
Up till now I've only seen one with a shrouded barrel.
Mine's a tactical Hunter model, they may be different.

Some people put Career barrels on theirs which further confuses matters.

The Mk2 will have a barrel shroud the full length of the air cylinder (it's about 20mm diameter) and will have a barrel band being held by the two front stck screws. The Mk3 has a muzzle brake which looks a bit like a silencer on the end of the barrel and does not have the aforementioned barrel band. There's also a subtle difference where the cylinder meets the reg. but it's difficult to describe. The difference in the barrels is sufficient to tell them apart. Also, if you open the breech, the place where you put the pellet in is silver on a Mk2 and black on a Mk3.

Hope this helps.

Jonathan.

i was told that on the mk3 the quickfill dust cap screws on and the mk2 its a push on.

I believe there are quite a few differences, such as those mentioned, the regulator machining pattern etc. Best to not mess about, just call Air Arms (01323 845 853) before you go any further.

I reckon people must have modded their PTs a lot.

I have it from AA that mine is a Mk2 yet it has a Mk3 reg, an unshrouded barrel with a black breech and a slim silencer (so no clue fronm the muzzle break).

My reg has a shallow circumferential groove near the the join with the cylinder, another 2 shallow grooves the other side of the regulator serial number, then 7 deeper grooves, ending with "u" shaped scallops around the end of the reg where it joins the receiver.
