More power from an old Airsporter - Wax polish and spreading pellet

I never realised how much difference spraying some bees wax polish into a cloth and rolling the pellets into it made. Before waxing I also push the pellet skirt down in a figure of 8 on the inside of the tin spreading the skirt slightly. Thus making the fit of the pellet slightly tighter. These guns work best with Eley Wasp 5.56 all other pellets I have tried are too small. WOW my old 1975 Airsporter will now penetrate an old Bean and half inch pine. Sorry not very scientific my mate bust my chrono it was doing a tad under 9 ftlb, and could not penetate an old tin can at 20 yds. Accuracy not bad either shoots 1 inch higher at 20 yds if I treat the pellets as mentioned. I would never thought waxing and spreading the skirt would have made this dramatic difference.

Interesting; my Airsporter prefers 5.56 Wasps but I've never tried resizing the skirts. Worth maybe using a sizer to do it consistently?

If you press the pellet down and move it in a figure of 8 It gives a pretty consistent result. If you come up with a sizer method, tool etc let me know. Wasp 5.56 fit well in these guns just anyway lubing with the beeswax polish increases the power. I think its this that's the essential ingredient. Always thought it was an old wives tale I'll be doing it with all my guns from now on. It must clean the barrel and prevent rust as well.

hello,the loading tap is very accurately machined,but has to have some gap to move ,so in effect it has a gap which air under pressue will seep out of ,thus loosing some power,hence the rb type on the last airsporter they brought out.
Try smearing the whole tap,once removed with tap sealent,remember there is a tiny ball bearing that holds the thing in place ,this needs to be kept safe so it isnt lost ,once done you should get more efficiency from your airsporter,regards kev ,:cheque it out : and let us know .
