After my begging post re this old HW77 I have stripped the gun awaiting some bits kindly offered by Sam and Pete.

This gun cocked like a pig and shot at @ 6FP.

So I strip it this morning and the spring is in 3 pieces.....straight in the bin. It was a standard looking round section jobbie...standard rear spring guide,no top hat.

I pull out the piston to check the seal and it has 3 'dents' in the perimeter.

I remove the piston chamber and have a look down it and it has 3 small metal 'balls' spaced around the bottom (@ 2mm diameter each). I give it a tap but they are 'stuck' to the end of the chamber.

I use a long screwdriver and gently tap the three balls out. They are not lead deposits....they are hard steel balls. They look like little weld 'spots'.

I've stripped a few 77's but have never seen these before. Anyone had experience of this (Baz/Sam).

Anyway they are out now and I've cleaned all the internals up ready for new bits and a proper lubing and this little old gun should be shooting sweet again.

The barrel(+u/l) has drooped @ 1.5mm. I always find this. Do they come like this brand new or do they droop over time?

Cheers

Hi Boz.

I've seen something similar in an Original Model 50... the guy's son had been firing ball bearings with it when he couldn't find a tin of pellets and a couple of them dropped through the transfer port.

My old 77 also shows about the same amount of droop. Like you I'm interested to know whether this is a design "feature" <img src="http://jsramsbottom.co.uk/bbs/e/icon_confused.gif" alt="Confused" width="15" height="22"><!--graemlin::confused:-->

droop happens over time with most 77's but u can get it straightened.

none of the things u describe r not standard, frankly sounds like a rite pigs ear of a job
