I have this old Airsporter that I am one day going to get around to rebuilding, and it has alot of wear on the aluminium (I think it is?) cylinder endcap/triggerblock. It seems to have some kind of baked-on paint finish, and I was wondering if I could strip this off polish it up and blue it using aluminium blueing. Is this stuff any good though? Anyone have any experience with it?

The original finish is a thick, (epoxy?) coating that looks great until it chips or scratches.

On Sam's (SBSD) website there are pictures of an Airsporter Stutzen where he has stripped and polished the curved end-block, which looks pretty good. Don't have the url to hand, sorry.

I also have a pic of a couple of BSAs customised by Don Robinson with refinished end blocks, although he doesn't say what process he uses. I could scan and mail the pic to you (don't want to post it on here as I don't want to infringe Don's copyright)

No idea on the question you're asking though!

Thanks chaps ... maybe I should just polish it up and keep it smeared with metal protector or something.. SolVol Autosol used to make my motorbike engine casings mirror-shiney so maybe that will be the way to go ...

The end block wont take to anodising as it is a casting.
Rules out aluminium black which is next to useless at best on suitable aluminium.

Paint it or stove enamel.

Sam, how do you protect the bare metal on the Stutzen from oxidising to dully grey? (v.beautiful looking rifle that BSA.)
