View Full Version : Which one?
Is there a particular classic airgun you don't own but would dearly like?
For me, it would be an HW55T - the Rekord trigger, lovely stock, classic Weihrauch build quality, a barrel lock and, I think, the potential to make a sporter with a little gentle tweaking. :)

I`ve been after a Walther LG55 for ages, but finding a nice one at a price I can afford is very difficult.
One of these days.............. ;)

I know a member of this forum with a minty Tyrolean stock HW55.
He picked it up at a boot sale for £30 quid.... I`m not joking

Th BSA Airsporter Stutzen was a gun I loved. Remembering them being well discounted in the early 80's and pondered many a time on buying one but never did.
Realy wish I had now as they are pretty unique slim stylish and attractive gun and now becoming sought after. Dont suppose they sold well as german power and accuracy was evrything at the time.

Two mint HW55Ts have been mentioned. I'd rather they went to collectors, because they'd be wasted on me.
First thing I'd do would with an HW55T would be to dismantle and explore ways of improving it. Some of these fine air rifles were allegedly ruined by efforts to raise their power by 1970s/80s 'tuning', and I'd like to take one to perhaps 11fpe whilst keeping it sweet shooting. I'm sure the potential is there.
Then I'd shoot it. It would inevitably pick up the odd scratch and dent - and it wouldn't be mint anymore.
So if I ever chanced upon a mint HW55T for £30 I'd be looking to do a swap for a non-mint example with a £30 cash adjustment. :)

Some of their prices are what you`d call optimistic :D
They`re asking £150 for a Haenel 111-284 that can be got off egun.de for £30

Does anyone use a 'full power' HW55?
Does anyone use a 'full power' HW55?
I had the pleasure last week of shooting an HW55T that had previously been 'tuned' to the limit and had reportedly been very unpleasant to shoot as a result, but had since been returned to standard spec, and shot beautifully.
Perhaps better to look for the pellet that gives a combination of accuracy and a reasonable velocity than to tune to the maximum.

I suppose the small air-chamber means a massively overpower spring has to be deployed to get high power, with the attendant filling-loosening recoil. I have heard that a Walther 55 can be tuned to the limit, but I cannot see that working well either ....

Mr Pope did tunes for these in the 80's i think he got 10.5 fp's
out of them.
Ive been looking for one of them for a while with no luck.

For me it would also be a 55t or an Airmasters fwb sport.atb Dave.:)

I've got two 55's an SM and an MM both now fitted with a slightly stronger than standard mainspring running about 620 to 680fps depending on the pellet used.
I also have the original Venom spring fitted to my 55SM when it was done by Venom this raises the power to around 10ftlbs but they are not as sweet to shoot at this level, and much harder to cock.
The 55T whilst being the most sought after in the range may not always fit you. In many ways the Walnut stocked MM is the better, but not as good looking rifle.

I onced owned a '55 and in my quest for power replaced the leather piston head for a plastic/nylon type and fitted a longer spring. I increased the power by approx. 1 ft.lb, the cocking effort immensely and lost the accuracy and character of the rifle. :( It was p/x when a cleaner example came along which I left totally standard. Lovely rifle to shoot. :D
