If like me you are getting in to the sport and don't want to remortgage the house to get started you could do a lot worse than look at the BSA Essential scopes.

I bought an Essential 3-9 x 40 to go on my Meteor and first impressions are really good.

Positives
Cost £49.95 including mounts
Good quality finish (it does not feel cheap)
Great optics (fast focus works really well)
Finger adjustable turrets
Simple to use

Downers
Mil Dots are tiny
Cannot reset turrets once zeroed

I took it for a spin today and was zeroed after about 1 hour (remember I am a newbie). Of course, I forgot that using a scope shows up every little shake, rattle and roll so I am going to have to work on the technique:D

One came with my Weihrauch 95S, but I find it can't cope with close targets i.e within about 15yards, as the either the reticle or target are out of focus.

That would be a parrallax error.

I have one on my HW95 and can easily focus down to 10 metres for close range ratting

Me too-I have the 3-9x40 mini mil-dot version (non pa) on my S200. For the money I think it's a super little scope

Very pleased with mine until the click adjust ball fell out from the top turret.
On a BSA Lightning and I guess the recoil too much for it (no excuse - BSA gun with BSA sight).
You gets wot you pay for...:(

...then the side turret adjustment fell out.
As an aside, I had a loss of confidence due to this scope-zero was shifting. Thought it was me and not allowing the gun to recoil cleanly. Tried everything until, fed up, I put the thing on a bench. Clearly there was a problem, groups everywhere, but mainly (but not always) up and to the right.
Replaced it with an AGS 40x6 fixed mag and all is now well.
Very well in fact!:D
