First post. I just got a nice new MTC Viper 6-24. Again as all the other reviews suggest, this is a very nice piece of kit, very well built and yet not so heavy. The turrets and zoom ring probably need a bit of work loosening but otherwise all good. Optics are nice and bright and very clear upto around 18 mag. The reticle is sweet, good sharp image and looks like it should be worth alot more than the asking price. I imagine this is where the bulk of the cost goes in the manufacturing. So I mounted it to a brand new X2 Sports, which was producing rather eratic results after zeroing. I can produce better 30 yd groups with my prosport using a catseye at the moment. After several second opinions from guys at my club it seems the scope is suffering from some internal zero shift. It can put pellet on pellet for a few shots then it puts one off by an inch or so. I put nearly 300 pellets through trying different senarios, with silencer and 10 shot mag on and off to no avail. So i just proved the zero shift by substituting the scope for another one i had laying around (an AGS 6 X 40 Mini) Problem solved!!! Pellet on pellet etc etc!
I haven't lost faith in the manufacturer or the scope, so now i'm just waiting to here from MTC, to see if i can send it back to them so they can take a look at it and, hopefully come to the same conclusion as i.
Will update review when i get a replacement.

I have had exactly the same problem with a Bushnell Trophy scope. Makes the scope unusable. I've never heard of it happening before with MTC

Hi there
Have you contacted either myself or Gary regarding this scope? Only I have no record of a 6-24x56 Viper being returned. Or have you returned it to the shop you purchased it from maybe?

Nice review buddy.
I thought I had zero shift with my Viper. After explaining the symptoms to Gary, he reckoned the barrel was loose-he was bloomin right as well!
When the odd pellet flies off do the rest return to the same hole or the new zero? If it's something you could've over looked like my problem was you won't need to be without your scope for long. Either way Gary or Sammie will make sure you're happy with the outcome.

Still no contact from the reviewer.
I have heard of one Viper owner who was convinced the scope had wandering zero but it was the rifle, which I proved by cleaning the barrel (this was a high powered FAC model)
No doubt it wont be this on your 12ftlb model, could be a scope problem so get in touch with Gary

Or just give us a ring. We are close enough for you to drive down, test here and take a new one away if it's faulty

i would get someone else to stick it on theirs to see if they get the same symptom before blaming the scope ;)

Thanks for the advice but i think this avenue has been explored, only in reverse. The budget AGS Mini 6 X 40 scope on the same gun produced thumbnail groups consistently for nearly a hundred pellets. Placing the Viper back on produced the same eratic results.
It was a mail order scope so could have possibly taken a bash in transit.

Thanks Ryan, it's a good point, i have been over the gun this evening hoping i would find something lose or similar but nothing. If i remember right, on occasions the zero shifted completely, giving me decent groups but way off the centre that i had already zeroed on, sometimes returning to it's original zero.

We have a variery of rifles and 30 yards indoors. DEfective scopes can and do happen, so I'd not fret too much until you can check.
We have warranty stock on hand so no problem

i have one on my air ranger .177 and have found it very good i have been droping woodies up to 40m+ and am over the moon with the very sharp optics.been gowing out as the sun is getting low but keep forgetting to put the sun shade on so dont know how well this will work???im more of a hunter than a target shooter but i think that its ideal for most types of work.
i dont have much to say that has not been said already......for the price range very good.
I recieved my MTC 6-24x56 from Uttings about 10 days ago. I did have a mini rant elswhere on BBS about the MTC mounts but that was more out of my odd scope mount obsessive compulsiveness more than anything else.
QUALITY scope for the price range and would highly recommend. :)

I would agree, i'd suggest if you were using the MTC to compete or on a springer then go for a mount upgrade for peace of mind, but otherwise whats in the box will do the job just fine.

Anyone have one of these scopes on a .223 rem? Looking for something with more mag than my existing scope (8x56). Will be used for some long range vermin control. 6-24x56 a good option or should I put in some more overtime and look again to european optics?
Any update on what it was? Scope or gun?
As for .223 yes they are great on CF I have them on a couple of mine and use one out to 1000yds with no problems
The main reason I changed from Leupold was the SCB ret on the Vipers, the best I have ever seen, at least they work great for me whether on air rifle, rimfire or centrefire

Tested last night
Matts scope on Matts rifle - dreadful
Matts Scope on my MK3 - Great groups
My Scope on Matts rifle - dreadful
Looks like the rifle sadly
A word of warning for all HW100 owners thinking about buying the 6-24x56 Viper.
You cant use the MTC mounts with the sunshade and flips ups on a HW100 unless you remove your barrel band. Unfortunately the barrel band obstructs the sunshade.
Another alternative is not using the sunshade... just the flip ups. This works fine too. :)
Thought it worth a mention.

It's true, i went to meet Gary at his warehouse yesterday evening to try a few different combinations and, what can i say, i will have to stone the crows until Daystate get a look at my gun! Bugger, the saga continues. So, now i have another wait on my hands before i get to shoot with my new gun! Besides that though, it is noteworthy to mention that as stated by so many others here on BBS, Gary and Sammie both took excellent care of the situation, their customer service commitment really is second to none. So thanks again Gary and Sammie for all your help. Will drop you a PM soon about the Hangar Shoot...

That was bugging me too, cause i had a very reasonable group with that 6 X 40. I can only say what i see, and my gun with Gary's FT scope wasn't producing decent groups even though the 6 x 40 was when i used it! I'll update when the gun has also been looked at by Daystate.

To conclude my review of the 6-24 X 56. My rifle was returned from Daystate, i took it out on the range today with the MTC and the combo is grouping as perfect as my abilities permit. In summary, i'm using the same scope i thought i had problems with, only Daystate have a put a new barrel on the action... So as it stands the scope is perfect, no problems andnow my gun is perfect too. The problems i was having did prove one thing though, and that, is that aftersales service from a supplier/manufacturer is worth it's weight in gold and i can commend both Daystate and MTC on that count. Thanks again to Garry & Sammie at MTC and Lynn at Daystate.
