Took this gun out for zeroing on Sunday -
First Impressions - A very attarctive gun, the Laminated stock is beautifuly crafted & extremely comfortable to hold, I'm a great fan on thumbhole stocks. The wide forend makes for a great grip. Although te gun has a heavy barrel I found it well balanced.
The Rifle comes with the Savage Accu-Trigger. The best way to describe this trigger is a cross between a two-stage trigger & a set trigger - may sound strange - However this suited perfectly (admitadly, I hadn't dressed for the occasion with no coat & no gloves shooting off a car roof in the wind wasmore than a bit chilly! My fingers were pretty numb after only 5 minutes :(so just a set trigger would have been a bit dodgy! The first part of the trigger pull is a fin which comes out through the centre of the main trigger this is like the first stage of the trigger which made for safer shooting. This pull is fairly light & very smooth. When you reach the main trigger, it is just like a set trigger, light with very little movement required. Fantastic. I shot the gun in three ways: off a rest, from sitting & from a bipod - granted with the wind it wasn't the best weather for shooting a .17 HMR However it grouped well with just a drift to the right (which was due to the wind) I shot a mixture of Hornaday V-Max & CCI TNT. It shot equally well with both rounds. I thouroughly enjoyed the gun, the bolt was smooth & certain,
the only thing I could even slightly fault would be the replacing the mag in the gun, you have to pull the mag catch towards you to be able to push the mag in, once I had done it a couple of times It was fine but the first couple of mags were fiddely.
All in all this was a great gun to shoot & you get a lot for your money with the Savage.:D Glad I gave it a go!
