Thanks to Baz and all for this section,
i`m almost ready to start reloading for my 222 and have been recomended the 36 grn Varmint Grenades, but when i suggested to my supplier the 40 grn V Max, he said that 55 grn would be better in the 222. From what i`ve read these would be to heavy especialy with the twist rate of my CZ, what are the thoughts of you experienced loaders out there in BBS world ?

The 40gr Vmax will work very well in the 222, but I think the 50gr Vmax (even though slightly slower) are marginally better.

I am quiter a fan of this remarkably accurate calibre, my rifle prefers Berger 52grn "Match";) the best, although 40grn Noslers are a close second and quite handy at 3600fps:)

I am now using A max 52gr which works really well for me at the moment. I wouldnt go for 55 gr though. V max werent as good as ballistic tip for me and on close inspection dnt look as well made.

I have used 40grn and 50grn v-max to great effect in my 222 t3 varmint but 55grn v-max were all over the place. The rifle will shoot 55grn speer sp and 52grn sierra match quite well but the 40grn v-max is definately the best so far.
Best results with n133 powder.

Were you able to source your 40gr Vmax locally?

I was able to get 40grn v-max in moy,but they seem to be very hard to get hold of,i have been waiting on 50grn to arrive in my local rfd for six months now!

CF Beattie (Ballycarry) has just taken a big delivery of Hornady Vmax (mainly 22), but no 40gr Vmax....

Haven't tried 52gn Berger yet, but same wt. in A Max over 19.5 Re7 work very well.
36 gn Grenades over 21 Re7 look promising, but a bit more development required - not quite as good yet as the heavier bullets.

the rifle is a Tikka 55.

I changed my Blaser .222 a year ago for the same in 22.250. The .222 is a very accurate round.

In the .222 barrel I used 50gn Nosler (they are better against the wind than 40 gn) 20gn of Hodgson H4189 keeping the ogive 15thou back from the lands. CCI primers. I weigh cases and bullet heads to get conformity using RCBS competition dies - not saying RCBS is the best as I prefer Redding in my other calibres.

On numerous occasions the single hole at 100 yards with 4 shots looked like a single 308 bullet hole - not my skill but the recipe I used :D

If I remember right the CZ should have a 1 in 14 twist which should be OK with the 55Gr V Max. I regularly use 55Gr FMJ's in my .222 CZ and produce good groups with no bullet topple even at ranges up to 600 yards. For hunting I prefer the 50Gr V Max's - these have the same ballistic coeff. as the heavier FMJ's and a bit more velocity as well so you should get the best compromise between long range trajectory and wind buckling ability with these.

I have a .222 Remmy Bdl with the barrel cut to 18" and I use Sierra 55gn HptBt being pushed by 20gns of H4198 and a normal CCI small rifle primer.
I push them in so that they sit in the Magazine properly and that's it.
Foxes within 200 yds don't like them!! might be good enough further away but have not needed to so far.

I still havent tried the 55 grn Vmax yet, but thanks to Wabbit Icer i`m using the Varmint Grenades over 18.5 grns of H4198 and getting 1/2" groups at 100 yds and 1 1/4" at 200yds.Surprised how little damage is inflicted on rabbits though, with "only" a 2" exit hole in the chest.

I loaded them up with CCI Benchrest primers and 18.5 grns of H4198,
i`ve just been out and tried them, first of all they were very quiet, quieter than the varmint grenades, i shot two groups of 5 at 100 yds, one 1"group with 1 flier one and a half inches away and one 3/4" group. All in all, very pleased, i will load some more up tonight and try them at 200 yds tomorrow.
