Has anyone any experience of importing from USA .
I am looking at a Dillon 550 direct from them . I know duty etc will need to be paid but would like any views .
Also brass is very cheap in USA , I think that could be shipped not so sure about heads.
Thanks

Heads can be shipped as well, aslong as they aren't ballistic tipped - usa will ship them, cutoms will accept them - post office wont deliver em

I got a MEC600 from USA (second hand) the duty nearly doubled the price. I wouldn't do it again without considerable research.

I got all my Lee reloading kit from directsales.com in the US. Used to be a bargain even after the 20% shipping, 17% vat and £13 uk postal handling charge.
But they've increased the us postage to 30% so unless you are getting loads its no longer a bargain.
Plus it took 3 weeks.
Mate also ordered some stuff and they hadn't even shipped when he chased three weeks later.
I wish you could order direct from midway us as much cheaper than midway uk even with postage and VAT.

Have you seen smartreloader.com?
Theyre pretty good and no duty to pay as they are within the EU
Shipping is a flat 15 euros or there abouts

Thanks for the comments , I looked at smartreloader.com had not found that one before .
No one appears to supply the Dillon equipment which I've been told is excellent .
Any thought on which would be second choice RCBS or LEE , I would prefer a progressive system saves a lot of messing around . Going to be loading about 100 rounds a month.

I bought my Dillon 650 from www.eguns.com - Yes, postage & VAT are high, but it was still worth it.

If all you are doing is 100 rounds a month have a look at the Redding T7 press. Its a good compromise between a single stage and a progressive unit. Costs about £152 from smartreloader. Enough space on the turret to fit dies for two calibres. Set them up then you never need to fiddle with them again. Just rotate the turret to what you need

Hi, I have imported Dillon stuff and found them to be excellent for service. Only watch for import taxes! Even so still far cheaper than European or Uk suppliers. Dillon 650's are brill I have 3, only had one breakage in 6 yrs and then parts were sent free of charge. It depends on how many rounds you are loading but the auto case feeder is a must if your doing say 500 +. You wont go wrong with a Dillon but they are really only worth the money if you shoot loads.

I've ordered from Lee, many times Moulds dies etc. and never had any problems. Even the duty and PO left it alone. Lucky Lord, I guess. Sounds like the price hike makes it a less viable option but as stated below if you're getting loads it can still be worthwhile. Also bought a new boss for my Browning from Numrich in NY with no issues. Hope this is useful.

All bullets can be bought from the US - its only illegal to post them in the UK BUT you must have facility on your FAC for any expanding you buy.
If you want the address of a friend in the US who owns a Gunshop and who will supply you write to mry716@hotmail.com

I bought a 550 direct from dillon, and its a fabulous bit of kit.I did load .44 mag on it, but recently sold the gun, so i will now be sending for their .223 dies, so i can load for the speedmaster. We use a 650 in the shop to load .357 and .44, and it must have loaded over a quarter of a million rounds by now, with very few spares required over the years.Absolutely superb kit, that runs like a swiss watch, and dillon are a great firm to deal with.Dont hesitate buddy.

Still cheaper than paying shipping which was quoted @ $225 and your still allowed 2 cases per person on transatlantic flights ! The extra lifting will do him good !!
Last time I was in the US i brought back a complete Radar System for my boat , that was very interesting fitting it all in suitcases !!

I know most people would like to blame him, but its not a new thing.
Computer parts I used to get during the thatcher years were all £1=$1.
All brown gets is the 17% VAT.
The rest is taken up in distributors and then shops. If they both want 30% margins then it doubles the price.
