Is 177 any good in a gun with a short barrel ie fenman or evo carbine
Ive been told it kicks to much because of the short barrel.

The following calibres/barrel lengths have the same recoil:

.22/10.5"
.22/7.5"
.20/10.5"
.20/7.5"
.177/10.5"

The only one that has more recoil is the .177/7.5" - as fitted to the .177 Fenman and .177 Evo Carbine.

Some of the short .177's are fine, but some struggle with accuracy when set above 10.5ftlb. Many of the short-barreled .177's get re-barreled to 10.5".

If you want an extra-short .177, you ought to try before you buy.
Otherwise go for the 10.5"-barreled Evolution walnut if you want a .177.

i doubt its enough of a 'kick' to worry about, not like a 12 bore. ;)

12 bore it may not be, enough to screw the accuracy it certainly can be.;)

never realised how little recoil it took, i would say my hummer has a larger kick than air and can get tight 3/4 - 1" groups at 100yds on a good day,
are air rifles affected more by his????

It's a lock time thing, methinks. An airgun pellet spends a lot longer whizzing up the barrel than a .17 HMR round, and thus hangs around for longer to be affected by the rather complex back-and-forth recoil of a springer.

Plus, compared to the fast 'n' flat HMR trajectory, an airgun pellet travels on a path similar to a spat piece of chewing gum i.e. not very far, not very fast, and with pronounced curvature. Also more affected by wind. All in all, a lot of variables make it harder to shoot an air rifle within 35 yards than an HMR within 100 yards.

See? Far more skilful than shooting an HMR!!:)

thanks for that Navybloke!!

i only use my air rifle for closer range stuff, so i have never come across the recoil as an issue.
