FYI I've found a pretty good load in my Remington 700 .243
It's 87gr Vmax and 44.5gr H414. That's in Nosler Custom brass, with a Remington 9.5 primer
Length is tuned to the max length of the mag.
Cases are weighed, trimmed, chamferred and flash holes deburred.
Accuracy is just under an inch at 150y (LRF)
I found that i couldn't get these 87s going with Varget, but h414 is fine.
Likewise, i found Varget great for 80s but the h414 isn't so easy

no i haven't mate...i might try them next (how is the availability and also fps?)....is your rifle a remington 700? ATVB Richard
I've been using Hornady 87gnHptBt in my Remmy for years.
I load 40gns of H380, Federal mag Primers and seat the bullet so that they fit the magazine.
That is my recipe for Fox and Roe out to 250yds, probably could do better but never needed to.

Yeah my mate uses 380 to great affect with both 70s and 95s - i don't know why i looked elsewhere, really....
You see, it sounds stupid but i'm not really happy with this inch at 150y. I KNOW it'll do the job and all that but i'm sure i haven't quite hit the nail on the head yet. It's like with my hornet - it was shooting well but then i changed the primers and wallop the group was halved from good to unbelievable....
I just heard that people were loving h414 with 87 v max and thought i'd give it a go....i'll fine tune the COL and see if i can get that magic half inch group i'm looking for. On that note, i did find that the Vmax don't like being TOO long...so i'll shorten them a shade at a time with the hand press and will report back!
(Oh,i remember why i didn't use 380 now - it was the fact that the fps with it is a couple of hundred fps lower, whereas h414 was top-notch, so that steered me....but accuracy is more important in the long run)

anyone reckon magnum primers will go well with the H414?
I was (still) looking for some Fed210s and failed again, of course, BUT the guy did have some GM215M, meaning federal large rifle magnum benchrest........any thoughts guys?
