Looking at buying a range finder, mainly just because I'm a sucker for a decent gadget.

Saw some very nice German stuff at the CLA last summer, but not really gonna stretch that far. But wondering what are your views on some of the mid ranged (no pun intended) range finders?

I've noticed that a lot of them won't go down past 20yrds which is a bit pointless for airgun ranges.

I'd of though 8yrds - 400yrds would be ideal.

Thanks for your time

A timely post as I was bought an Optisan Rangefinder (MTC) as a present today. the review (posted by someone else) is on the Optic section.

Playing with it (The Rangefinder less any wits are reading) it measures down to 3 yards as this was recorded when I checked if it will range through a window.

Small light and seems very well made. Out hunting for a couple of hours today, shot at nothing but now know the range for lots of inanimate objects!

Agree with everything in the review. Personally I don't bother with the pouch, just carry the r/f in a pocket.

£139 I believe. Good luck

Google Earth.
Not a joke, it can tell you the distances on your favourite shooting ground and its free.

Not a bad idea buddy, quite a bit of mine is in woodland mind so don't think that would work to well for me but, yeah good thinking.

At 20 yards do you really need a rangefinder?

It'd be nice

I see your point, but I can't see why a range finder couldn't ping sub 20's!?

I agree..... I use a JSR to set up courses at the club, and its fine. To find ranges at less than 20 yards, you move back a known distance, (using the rangefinder,) then rangefind the target, and subtract the first number. Obviously, this won't work if you're hunting, but as said, if you can't judge ranges of less than 20 yards, by eye, you shouldn't be shooting live quarry.
