I have about £60 to spend on a simple scope for rat hunting. I wanted a few pointers with regard to which one to get? I can go to about £80 if necessary...

I shoot rats in low light conditions....

In the past I have stuck to HAWKE scopes as they seem pretty good value for money.

You should get a nice MTC Cobra 3-9x42 for that price.
They are cracking scopes.
Mildot, AO and they come with mounts.

Thanks chaps.... Looks like I will have quite a few options. I will have a look at all those mentioned here and let you know whci one I finally pick. It's surprised me that there's no need to spend more than £60 or so. Goes to prove how good those Chinese made scopes are - Good value for money.

Also, have a look at the JSR 3-9x40 PX illuminated. I have one of these, and it's really a nice scope. £49.95;)

I've got a Richter optik 3-9x50PA on my .22 hornet. Illuminated mil-dot and decent glass, holds zero fine, had foxes to just under 200 yards with it. Should be ok on an airgun  It was £50 from the CLA, various places online do them. Came with flip-ups too!

I looked through an MTC Cobra last year and the glass was fantatic for the price. Crisp bright picture.

I'd say that's got to be a strong contender.

Give Sammie or Gary a bell, they'll be happy to answer any questions you've got I'm sure. ;)

Or a second hand 1.5-5x20 if you're working at close range.

In low light conditions i'd suggest a larger objective lense to let in as much light as possible. If you're shooting at a set range you can pick up a JSR 3-9x50 (non parallax or IR) for about £35 including P&P but i'd recommend something Parallax adjustable. If your happy with a 40mm objective lense i can really recommend the JSR 3-9x40AOIR. I've done a fair bit of roost shooting in the evenings and had great results and the IR helps on the lowest setting.

a 2nd hand Nighteater 3-10-44 S/w PX are great. Also the JSR onec are pretty good as well.

You can have as big an objective as you like but if the glass isn't up to it then you'll lose just as much light as you let in with that extra 8mm.

Better glass beats bigger objective every time.

Very true but the JSR glass quality isn't bad for the money. The 3-9x40AOIR beats my mates Hawke costing double the price. Sorry not sure of the model.

Best thing really is to go into a shop and have a gander at what your looking for!

I'm probs out of order ...

... but there is a guy in the sales section trying to flog a Falcon rifle. It has a 3-9x50 Simmons scope with it. He wants £220 I think with gun , bag , scope.

Some guy has offered him £200 for just the gun and advised he can sell the scope seperately.

Maybe worth you dropping him a PM telling him you'll have the scope for @ £25 ish and maybe 3 people get happy and you get a decent cheapo scope.

Look at the Hawke Airmax MAP6 2-7x32 AO.
I've just bought one and am impressed. Its well made, bright and clear. Very neat and compact.
PS: if you search you can find them on offer for £30, nearly half price :-)

I did, plus £10.00 postage.

Actually its £8 plus £1.20 VAT = £9.20. Do you expect DHL to deliver for free

JSR seem to manage it for £1.99 next day delivery.;)

Simmons Whitetail Classic. An unremitting and no nonsense rat optic.

I've seen 1.5-5X20 versions going for £45.

You wont be disapointed. I've had 4 of them, all for my dedicated ratting-short range ratting rigs.
