Now I've stripped the adonising off of my scope mounts(using Mick French's Caustic Soda method-cheers Mick!), I want to fit either brass or Ally bolt to it, for the final touch of bling, (preferably Brass).
I can't find owt on t'interweb for them, and only occasionally see them in the for sale section. Short of visiting every B&Q-style shop in South Wales, does anyone know if these are possible, or am I going to have to polish the bejeezus out of the steel ones?

Stainless? Shouldn't cost you more than a couple of quid. Or gold anodised ally if that's your preferred colour, loads of bike places will have them.

Ah, now why didn't I think of that? Probably for the same reason the caustic soda trick didn't!

Do not put brass in to aluminium, the two will react and make a mess.
Can't for the life of me remember why it does it, it just does, not a good idea....

i use titanium bolts,,, half the weight of the steel and ultra blingy.
Not cheap at a quid each though..... But they do not rust. Ever.
Www.tibolts.uk or evilbay.

Seeing as I'm not yet home, what size do Sportsmatch mounts require is it M4 or M4? I can't remember for the life of me!:)

M4 x 10 to hold the straps in place, M4 x 16 (sometimes M5 x 20) for the rail clamp.

:DWhy not just use your standard black bolts........??
Put the thread end in a cordless drill, Spin it then sand the head with 120 grit emery cloth to strip the black off...Then some 280grit to take out the marks then wet & dry, To finish autosol paste..... job done in 2 mins per bolt at the most ;)
I bet you cannot tell that much difference from stainless, just rub them with oil when you rub over yer barrel :D:D
Regards
Mick

ERM??
If you're coming from CE LIGHTING you reach the lights with the bike shop on the right and the little garden centre on the left. Turn left at the lights. 200m up, turn left opposite a pub into a small industrial estate. 2nd left, then down to the bottom. Thats for stainless though. Not titainiun. Ive been quoted silly money for ti bolts...... One was about £46 to change one set of mounts:eek::eek::eek::eek: Forget that!! www.tibolts.uk were the most reasonable.;)

I thought about that, but wanted something low-maintenence yet low cost. 3 bags of 20 for £4.97 is not so bad.
Plus getting rid of the paint in the allen fitting would have been a beehatch.
Edit: Unbelievably, they've just arrived. Two from Devon, t'other from oop Neyorth. RM performing as they should. For once.
