I didn't even know they made these until a friend of a friend on here contacted me with one he wanted to change for a standard LH sporter. His problem was the size of his hands made 'thumb through' impossible.
Now I had been of the view for ages that Theoben should offer a really nice ambi stock along the lines of that fitted to the Daystate Air Ranger/Air Wolf. Well at last they have!! Made by Customstocks of Sheffield it is a rather angular item that on first viewing isn't quite as nice as the Daystate Italian job but is nevertheless a step in the right direction.
I have one major niggle in that on fitting I was annoyed to note that the wooden trigger guard was unable to accommodate the trigger blade. I was disappointed to see that the trigger blade was so long that it had actually made a small mark on the wood on the inside of the trigger guard and needed to be filed down to move when fitted. The safety catch is virtually inoperable so the trigger area needs work. I sorted this using a B & D PowerFile. However, given that this stock was MADE for the R2 I regard this poor attention to detail as 'disappointing'.
In use the stock is OK. It works well for both LH and RH shooters. Double thumb-up and thumb through positions are comfortable for all shooters except those with exceptionally large fingers.
My only criticism of this stock-apart from the annoying mis-fit of the trigger-is that it appears very hard-edged. The shape of the stock is very angular and I feel that a bit of 'curving' on the edges would improve this no end. I will report back after I have had the stock in use for a while.
