I'm new to pcp's ( not airgun's ) and i've recently bought a second hand s410 carbine.
It was filled to 190 when i bought it and from my use, was at about 50.
Well last night i had the crap scared out of me when i was watching t.v, because the remaining air suddenly ( and loudly ) escaped all in one go.

So doe's anyone know what's caused this ?
How much to get it repaired?
How long can you leave the rifle with air in? I've only had it about 3 weeks.

Thank's in advance for any replies

Lower air pressure than the valve spring has power to keep the valve closed causes this.
Keep over 100bar in the gun and it won't happen again.
50 bar is well too low to keep the filling valve closed.
Also a pump won't be enought to shut the valve now, it needs a good blast of air from a bottle.

You may be ok just refilling it, don't forget to cock it when it's empty or it'll vent again , don't let it get so low in future, fill to around 180 , refill around 100ish, not 100% on the power curve on the carbine for shot count, someone will know.

I had to pump one up with a stirrup pump, after it had dumped the air, just cock the gun and you should be able to fill it.

I find it odd that it vented when it was not being used, and not on it's last shot when the impact of the hammer would certainly have opened the valve and the spring tension would have kept it open against the low reservoir pressure.

In other words, since it re-closed (from open) on the last shot, how come it spontaneously opened from closed?

Possibly the low pressure either allowed a slow leak from the very same exhaust valve, or the gun leaks slowly from elsewhere, so the pressure subsequently dropped to below critical.

It might just have been that the gun was cooler than it has been; the weather has got colder the last few days. In the cold weather the reservoir pressure will drop a shade, and if it was only just enough to hold the valve shut beforehand it wouldn't have needed much of a change to allow the dumping that you experienced.

Other than possibly a slow leak somewhere, the gun sounds fine.

Thank's for the advice guy's, i appreciate it!
Relieved it's nothing serious, i'm going to get it filled tomorrow. I'll have to buy a bottle soon.
What size bottle is suitable for the s410 carbine?

A 3l 300 bar would keep you going, but get the biggest you can afford, save on trips to the refill station.

I'd go for a 7 litre 300 bar bottle. :)

If your in any doubt if the rifle is leaking then once you have had it filled put a balloon over the end of the barrel with the bolt closed and another over the fill valve,if any blow up thats where the leak is from!.

Some 400s and 410s were made with a pressure relief valve to stop you overfilling them. If you can see a little hole in the plug at the end of the air cylinder, close to where you fill it, then you have one of these valves. They are supposed to vent excess air if you overfill.

Every gun I've had with one of these - apart from one - has had problems with them slowly leaking.

With regard to the best bottle, find out where you will get it filled & ask what pressure they fill to,
it strikes me as pointless to pay the extra for a 300bar bottle to then find out you can only get a 232bar fill locally.

Done a full string through the Chrono on my carbine a few weeks ago. had been filling to 180 bar, but was getting a lot of low shots on first half of the course.

The string revealed its into the sweet spot at 160 bar, and out again at 110 bar. just gives me 40 usable shots.

Now wish I had bought a classic :o
