View Full Version : Hydro Graphics Quick Fill Question

I seem to be posting endless questions at the moment - so here is the latest:

I have a Hydro quick fill conversion on my Steyr. When I used to screw the cover (with pressure gauge) on I used to get a small phut of air as the gauge engaged and that was that. Now I have to screw it up, give it a real hard quick turn and it still loses at least 5 BAR before I can get it tight enough to seal. Is there anything that can be done so that the cap seals earlier or is it a return to Mr Sykes job?

Don't follow that Pod. Can you elucidate.
btw; I have been drinking, so any answer will probably be utter tosh.

I think there is an 'O' ring inside the cap that may be leaking & need replacement, not sure if you can do it yourself though.

It has only been back from a service for a few weeks and its been the same since its return :( .

I 'think' the cap has been fiddled with by Jon to get the pressure gauge horizontal when tight. but I think the bit that has the o ring is now too far up inside the cap so when it engages on the quick fill, the cap is already nearing the end of the thread.

I was wondering if there is any way I can move the gauge in the cap in a bit

Guess I'll have to wait and have a chat with Jon.

Cheers.

If you had it coverted to a quick fill, where the **** is the gauge. You replace the gauge with a qf.

Puzzled, very very puzzled.

Hydro Graphics put the gauge in the qf cap. When you screw it on it opens the quick fill valve and shows the pressure in the cylinder.

Ah! see what you mean.:) (I think)
Don't quite see how screwing the gauge onto the qf, opens the qf in order for it to readout, but there you are..............

If it does, (or should), work, the fault would appear to be between the qf and the gauge (even if I cant work out how it should work.

They use an Air Arms type quick fill with a screw thread at the bottom so the end cap screws on, as the end cap is screwed on it presses the ball valve on the quick fill to give a reading on the gauge in the end cap, at the same time an 'O' ring in the end cap stops the air escaping from the cylinder. If your still not sure have a look at some of the Hydrographics Steyrs at Ponty & all will be clear:)

Good call Scooby  .

Spoke to Jon at Hydro Graphics and had it explained to me: The male part of the qf wears slightly over time allowing the ball valve to stick out a tiny bit further. This means that when the cap is screwed on, the pressure gauge accentuator starts pushing the qf ball valve before the o ring has sealed - et voila loads of hissing. Jon suggested that I hoik the o ring out and put it back in the other way round. If it improves then a new o ring is required. Gave it a try and its back to its good old self so I'll be ordering a new o ring tomorrow.

Thanks all. :)
