Here we go again good people, the date for the 2006 Easter Bunny Bash is set for the 23rd April:D
As usual it will be at our Popham Woods venue with the main shoot a 40 shot hunter. We will also be running the popular pistol hunter and our Tactical Air Gun or TAG shoot. (See below)
Catering will be on site thanks to Kev and we'll have the usual run of trophies etc and raffle.
Prices for entries will be announced shortly but probably very similar to last year. See below.
We will have the golden bunny to test Mr Huckle:D and the usual testing hunter targets. Oh and we'll also be calling them "KILL ZONES" and not hit zones;) (refer to another thread)
So folks make a date in your diaries for one of, if not the biggest airgun event in the south this year.
Details
Hunter consisting of 40 shots to our usual/CSFTA rules.
Recoiless and recoiling classes to 5th plus Junior (15 & under) to 3rd.
Plus ladies to 3rd place NOT wining a position in either main top 5 catagory.
Entry will be £6.00 with a reduced entry of £3.00 for juniors.
Golden "Easter" Bunny £1.00 entry.
TAG consisting of 20 shot course with prizes to 5th place any class.
Pistol Hunter. Consisting of 30 shot course. Recoiling class (open/iron sights). Open (Any pistol but excluding match type pistols with anatomical grips and match triggers, and or magnifying sights). Red Dots are OK on the open class.
All pistol shots to be taken at stretched arms length (target style) either one or two handed as designated on the lane. One handed means one handed with no support from the other hand.
These rules are designed to make the competition a level playing field and will be enforced in the spirit in which we hold event.
Final rules will be posted at the start of the competition
Booking in from 09.00 comps start at 10.00.
Any questions, just ask away:D
Hope to see you all there (well perhaps not everyone otherwise I won't get the chance to shoot!)
Bob
A POCKET GUIDE TO OUR TAG SHOOTS
We came up with the TAG or Tactical Air Gun format to give it the full name, a couple of years or so ago as a variation to the more usual HFT. It was designed to get nearer to a "true" hunting scene by giving you the opportunity to decide whether to take a shot or not.
Following normal hunter rules, TAG moves on to give a more challenging course. The targets are placed in the normal, not always easy to get to positions but the kill zone is painted the same colour as the plate, sometimes black, dark green or even cammo. Reducers can be used in moderation but generally fairly close up only.
The main difference is that you opt whether to take the shot or not, just like you would in the field.
If you take the shot and get a "kill" you are rewarded for your integrity and abilty with a 1. However if you miss and get a plate or complete miss you get a -2 on your card. You can however opt not to take the shot and enter a zero on your card.
Last time we ran one we had some very interesting scores from 27 ex 30 down to -57 I think
The skill is in being honest with yourself.

To be honest, I found it not to bad with a springer, but it would be nice to get that break in the middle, so maybe start a little earlier this time, just to make sure we beat the light..;)

Yeah, you should see the membership grapping their beanbags when Sean walks into the club. A bit like footballers covering their nuts during a free kick at a football match:D
The TAG would be billed as a secondary shoot alongside the HFT but would be considered more than a side shoot.

No I've not really gotten around to fixing the rifle or calling anyone about it, I've been up to my eyeballs in suicidal PCs for the past few weeks (I walk near them, they suddenly get very depressed and then kill themselves when I hit the power button, most odd).
I think all I need is a hammer spring, as two coils broke off mine and the rifle started hitting 14ft/lbs, regardless of how much I adjusted it! Needless to say I removed the spring sharpish. I think the trigger sear spring might have also fallen out, but I'm not sure.
How's married life treating you now? Is that thumb nice and comfy? :D.

After all, the stress incurred in having to decide whether to attend the Bunny Bash or the champs in Poland is obviously immense and at Garys age could be construed a potential and real threat to his continued health and mental well being.

Sorry to say I won't be around for this shoot BUT
Let me say that if there is one shoot that is worth getting off your **** to go to, it is this one.
The TAG shoot is a brilliant concept and really makes you think. Have a go but be warned it is really tough. You got to make the right calls to decide if you shoot it or loose it.
The hunter usually involves Bob drilling holes in trees (pervert:D ) and it will be challenging which is just the way I like it.
The FT is also excellent, and if you have the stamina, all 3 are worth a pop.
The challenge is also very interesting - I think last time there were a series of lanes and you got higher points (3) if you took the target (and dropped it) for standing, dropping to 2 ppoints kneeling and 1 point for prone.
I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH - THIS IS A CRACKING SHOOT SO GET YOUR A55 INTO GEAR AND MAKE SURE YOU SHOW UP.
Really peed off wont be there and I hope the weather is good for you.
Oh and if your asked to help put up the marquee, I suggest you decline :(

Hi Machasm.
No problem sharing a gun however you won't be able to adjust it between taking turns. Also it won't be a problem being paired although we would normally put you with a third shooter. I'm assuming yor son is either a junior grade, thats 15 or under at basingstoke for competition purposes or 17 or under anyway which if so we prefer you to shoot round with him. Just tell the stats tent.
You'll find us pretty informal and very welcoming and if you are new someone will be pleased to show you the ropes so to speak

Yes Poole is a nice part of the country to live in. I have been living here for the last 2 years after moving from Bournemouth and living there for 12.
I would recommend either area but for me Poole is just a little quieter. Wife works at the RNLI which is just down the road so makes it convenient.
I do some bunny bashing up at a farm near Bere Regis and occasionally visit Christchurch Gun club to keep my eye in.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the Pistol comp since the first post, is it still on and is it possible to do both events ,pistol HFT and rifle HFT ?
Sounds a bit masochistic I know , but if there was a chance I`d like to give it a go.

B.A.R.P.C. Hunter Rules
BASINGSTOKES HUNTER RULES FOR THIS SHOOT ARE VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL TO THE CSFTA RULES AND VERY SIMILAR TO UKAHFT. PLEASE READ TO ENSURE YOU KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THESE RULES.
1. The course will consist of a minimum of 20 targets with one target per lane. Each lane will have two (2) shooting positions.
2. Competitors will take one shot from each peg, with a part of their body touching the peg. There are no "impossible" shots, however the course has been designed to provide maximum interest!
3. The only shooting position not allowed is any sitting position. Any other position is permitted as long as it does not generate a danger to any shooter or spectator or any other member of the public.
4. Shooters may not alter the magnification or parallax position on their scopes or alter the positioning of stock and or butt hook after the first shot.
5. No range finding other than bracketing or by eye. (No lasers, range finders etc)
6. Use of bipods and or any other external shooting aids (eg shooting stick & hampsters etc) are not permitted. Bean are bags allowed for kneeling shots only when they can be used to protect the knee. Spirit levels and wind indicators are permitted. Gloves may also be worn but must be used for EVERY shot
7. Range officers must be approached in the event of a dispute and the Chief Marshals decision is final. Only Club range officers are permitted to cross the firing line following a single blast of a whistle and ensuring all guns are clear.
8. On hearing a single whistle all shooters will immediately discharge their guns into the ground in front of them. 2 whistles signal all clear and safe to resume shooting but can only be given by a range officer.
9. All targets to be freshly painted at the start of shoot. Contrasting colours for face-plate and kills. Targets will be placed at a minimum of 7 yards, however we reserve the option to extend the range on open shoots. A minimum kill zone size of 25mm diameter is permitted up to 30 yards and a maximum of 45mm diameter for other targets.
10. The Pegs must be placed within 1 metre of the firing line and only the rifle and arms may cross the firing line. Once the shoot has commenced there will be no re-siting of targets.
11. Pegs to be firmly fixed at ground level and painted in a clear and obvious manner.
12. The partner system of marshalling shall be used.
13. To encourage a reasonable pace through the course, we ask that you try to keep a steady pace. Shooters taking longer and causing a back log will be warned and if necessary placed on a 3min. time allowance per lane from placing scope to eye. Persistent offenders may be asked to leave the course.
14. Any gun used in the competition may be chronographed . Shooters will be tested on the chronograph with the pellets they are using in the competition. Any shooter whose gun fails the chronograph test will be disqualified.
15. Scoring is 2 points for a kill, 1 point for metal, zero points for a miss.
16. For this event, in the case of a tie for a medal position a count-back system will be used with the competitor with the lowest number of “0” s being deemed the winner. If the number of “0”s is the same then the competitor with the highest number of “2” s will win. After this a shoot off will take place which may or may not be on the main course.
TACTICAL AIRGUN
The hunter shoot with a difference!
Rules are very similar to Hunter but with some small differences. I.e.
All kill zones will be coloured the same as target face plates
• Score 1 for a knockdown
• Score -2 (that’s minus 2!) for a hit on metal or a complete miss
• Score 0 for opting not to shoot at a target
Other than that, rules are:
Part of your body must touch a peg when taking a shot
No adjusting scope or rifle after taking the first shot in the competition
No resting upper body, arms or gun on beanbags or similar support whilst shooting
Targets will be placed between 6 – 40 yards away (I.e. Hunting distance)
The idea of this shoot is to see how honest a hunter you are. If you feel a target is too difficult for you, you have the opportunity not to take the shot. However, if you do take it and miss/hit the plate, you score –2. It is therefore quite possible for the competition to be won with a score of 0!
HUNTER PISTOL RULES
Please use the Buddy Marshalling system so that several competitors can shoot the course at any one time
Score 2 for a knockdown/reaction/ring
Score 1 for a hit on the metal frame of the target
Score 0 for a miss
Part of your body must be touching the peg whilst you take the shot. There are 5 targets to each peg. They may be placed in banks of 5, in pairs or arranged singly
You may use any position, other than sitting to take a shot as long as it is deemed as safe
The course is designed for standard “plinking” pistols and the use of dedicated Match pistols is not allowed. A dedicated match pistol will be defined as having an anatomical grip and fitted with a match type trigger.
The use of magnifying sights, lasers and shoulder stocks is not allowed (red dots can be used in the “Open” Class)
There is a separate Class for Recoiling (Spring) pistols, with open sights only
You may not alter/adjust any part of your pistol once the competition has started
All shots to be taken with the pistol held at arms length and not supported by any other means
Re-entries are allowed
Think SAFETY - Air pistols can be easily pointed in any direction due to their small size. Keep yours pointed down range at ALL times
We recommend pistols are holstered or cased between pegs. If you carry yours, the pistol must be seen to be unloaded. I.e. Barrel broken / breach open and magazine removed / cylinder swung open
In case of any dispute, the club’s decision will be deemed as final

Yes it is (well nearly). The rifle died about 30 shots later (flat battery) so I was really lucky it didn't die half way round the comp. The battery would only last for less than 1000 shots. And it had a pronounced power curve - as long as I fired off 30 shots after a fill it was fine, and filling to a lower pressure made no difference  . It seems on initial tests today that a 175/180 BAR fill gives good results (it used to be 200 BAR). Saves air though :D . Just got to double check that the power is there from shot 1. Something to do isn't it ;)

It's an omen I tell you...
First off, the entire family decides that they want to attend, soI have to spend the best part of three days getting all the rifles zeroed in. Then the gauge on my bottle packs up, reading 50 bar more than it should (net result my rifles only got filled to 120 bar and lost power real fast), I had to clear out the car to make room for the arsenal, then I find out that my 12l bottle has finally run out of air!!
So all-in-all it should be a good day, I'm just glad I chose to use the springer :D.
See you there.
Scott.

I mentioned on another associated thread that I was considering putting in a "special" prize based on the golden shot idea.
This will now take place as follows:-
Most of you are aware of my "infamous" hole on the tree target where I drill a hole which you have to shoot through for a kill. You be pleased:D to know that I have decided not to dissapoint:rolleyes: and as such I have prepared a gastronomic delight to please all.
On the lane with the hole in the tree only the 2nd peg needs to be shot through the hole (the first shot can be taken around the tree, just) so anyone who has entered this special (side) competition at £1.00 per entry and who drops the target will be entered into the prize draw with the prize being a choice of a mini cruise to Santander, Spain or a return ferry crossing to France with 48hours actually in France for up to 4 people. The crossing is made with Brittany Ferries and can be worth up to £300.00 approx. depending on when taken.
There are some conditions imposed by the operators which include the winner paying port tax and insurance but this is not much. Full details to be provided to the winner.
The usual Golden Bunny is still on as well and the raffle includes a designer watch worth up to £150.00

Superb Bob,
So what distance is the Hole in the tree then..
I think he said 45 yards and a .22 shooter doesn't stand a chance as a .22 pellet will not fit through the hole. But I was having a nap earlier ;) Oh and something about if no-one gets it then he will have to take the prize... :D :D

'Twas a lovely day to be out in the woods. The light rain was a little annoying after the beautiful day yesterday.
It was good to meet airgunner2388 at last. And catch up with loads of old mates from Basingstoke.
The course was a little 'interesting'; lots of twigs and challenges. The only real problem was the sideways squirrel which was nigh on impossible after it had spun round. No idea what it was like before it moved but I suspect it was only slightly better.
Ross H was shooting superbly and it was a pleasure to follow him round for a few lanes having a laugh and joke. Great bloke - especially for one so young.
All in all a great day and a nice intro for my new Air Wolf. Crikey it shoots flat ;)

Thanks to Bob and the guys for the day, shame it was raining really,The only bad point for me personally, was the Target that turned 90 deg up the tree, This left it unshootable, so I opted for a one, but because I'm needing & hoping for every point possible to try and catch Mr Bud (one day).;)
It's always a pleasure to go round with You Gretel, & Dave, as I find it almost therapeutic, listening to Dave's jokes, and telling me how he got Lou Big time at shepreth (Of all people,I would never of believed it)!!
I always like to keep on your good side too, otherwise I'd receive one of your Karate chops :D ;) he he he .
When I got home, I did the usual complete strip down of the gun, and I found the top hat had broken up inside the piston :(
I knew something was wrong half way round when I missed easy shots , O well It will be ready for the next comp, and I hope to try and add a little more pressure to Mr Bud..;) :D
Cheers for a good day.

I'm sure there's lots who've beaten me to it (didn't trawl the posts to count them), but wanted to add my BIG THANKS :) to all at BARPC for the Bunny Bash. Great fun.
I didn't shoot too well on the HFT (unlucky 13th place), but surprised myself in coming a creditable 6th in the open pistol. Might not seem too good .... until I explain that :
a) I was shooting with a brand spanking new HW45, bought Tuesday lunchtime;
b) it's red dot sight didn't fit properly, being off-centre and (though I'd tightened me nuts as much as a screwdriver would allow :eek: ) still moved forward about 1mm on every shot;
c) it had only had ~10 shots fired through it (suspect that doesn't count as 'run-in');
d) the sights could hardly be described as 'zero'd', and I'd no clue on the trajectory either side of 10yds;
d) I'd shot myself in the leg with it on Tuesday evening :o , resulting in most of the night in A&E while they decided if they could remove the pellet (ans = NO). If anyone ever doubted the firepower of these little HW babies, the pellet lodged just short of the bone, having passed through nearly 3" of my upper thigh
All of which I may also have used to explain the pained expression and final score in the HFT results.
See you at the Summer Sizzler (if I haven't shot myself again)
