OK, since this forums' resident NV experts seem to be AFK, I'll give my best opinion.
Different people have their own opinions of night vision and how good and useful it is.
In my opinion, NV is worth getting. Some people apparently can't get on with it.
Gen1 is adequate for 12ftlb airgun use. You will have to accept a low, fixed magnification of about 2.5x, which is not to everyone's taste. Shots at 30~40yds are about the limit of 2.5x mag. Some scopes can fit a "doubler" lens, which increases the magnification.
Personally, I think that low magnification helps to quickly scan around without losing your bearings.
Gen1 often benefits from an infra-red illuminator (invisible light emitter) which is sometimes, but not always, built into the scope. It also lights up the eyes of quarry, like lamping (but the quarry don't respond to IR).
Hope that helps a bit.

Gen 1 with a decent laser illumionation is good for 100yrds. I use a merlin gen 1 with a 95mw laser and this id certainly good for 100yrds at about 12x mag! but it will depend on what NV unit, what laser and what scope you are using!

Best thing to do, is ask around on here, to see if anyone within (say) 50 miles has a system you can look through.
Check out a Gen I dedicated with additional illuminator. Also check out an add-on system if you can. If you can travell, you'll be able to see lots of NV, as the people here are really helpful with that sort of thing. I speak from experience.;)
Budget will affect what you can get, so have a think before you spend. £600 should sort you out a new system, half that for a 2nd user system.
