Don't get too detailed with your review, will you? :D

I like a summarised report!:)

But is it worth the money compared to an S400, or a BTAS regulated one, or a Steyr etc etc etc??

I think it is a great rifle. It has issues that have taken a time for me to understand, particularly POI shift over the fill - bit low after a fill, consistent for a lot (not sure how many but in the order of 180 shots), and then drops off again. I have already dropped the fill pressure by 20 BAR. I suppose its to be expected with an unregulated action, and all things considered it is a very flat power curve. But it is definitely there.

On balance I personally don't think its worth the asking price :(

Hopefully a bit more than you have! This is after all the REVIEW section not just a place for plugging expensive kit.

Wotcha,

I owned an Airwolf back in the late eighties. I think it was a BSA?
It looked nothing like the one in the review and was a break barrel not a PCP :)

my air wolf was originally on order before the gun was released to the public, at the time i wasnt given a price. when i was told that it would be £1066 i quickly withdrew the order, saying that it was madness to price the gun at the alarming cost that it was.
i later shot an air wolf and bought one as i thought it was the flattest shooting gun id ever used. for some reason it appeared to be on aim at any spinner on the club plinking range (60yds)
i dont use mil dots now for the simple reason im not a bench rest perfectionist, i use the zeroing time at the club as a practice session for my pest control forays. im happy if i can hit the spinner at any range without faffing about with pa, zoom or wind detectors attached to my gun. its got to be an instinctive move of shouldering the gun and getting the shot off and on target before the target bolts.
as such, the wolf cannot be faulted except the weight of it compared to my x2r.
its been out in all weathers and never let me down. it hits everything the cross hairs are on (i wobble and cant blame the gun) and give a lot of shots per fill from its 500cc cylinder.
im happy that i bought the wolf and later bought a sister gun in .22 (sold grudgingly when funds were needed)
how does it compare to the guns mentioned in previous posts?
it doesnt compare because theres nothing on the market to match the air wolf. boringly accurate as it is, ive reached the top of the pile as airguns go, ive owned the lot, steyrs, ripleys, weihrauchs, air arms...................

still happy with it? oh yes :D

 TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT;) THE WEIGHT ISSUE? STRANGE BECAUSE I USED A FRIENDS LAST WEEK,AND FOUND IT OK.ABOUT THE SAME AS MY OWN,I ALSO TRYED ANOTHER MATES,AND NOTICED A SLIGHT DIFFERANCE IN WIEHGT:confused: MAY BE IT WAS SOME THING TO DO WITH THE SCOPE,BUT I DID NOTICE IT BIENG FAR HEAVIER THAN MY FRIENDS AND MY OWN GUN.AS FOR THE ACCURACY SUPERB;)

Weight difference could be that you were shooting the wolf with with a 400cc bottle on then the other gun haveing a 500cc, I prefer the 400cc it balences the gun so much better

I have an Airwolf and love it to bits, although i had problems with it when it was dropped....not a happy man, i talked to Tony and told him the score and he sorted the gun, The gun came back even better than it was before the drop. I was so glad to see the Airwolf came 6th overall in the UKAHFT standings , shoot by Darren Lindsey ...he makes it look far far to easy.

A fantastic gun allround:D :D .

Airwolf very good Steyr LG 110 very very good. Its a hard choice between these 2 guns for me neither in my opinion is the nicest gun to hold, the Wolf feels a bit wide at the front end,the Steyr probably one of the worst stocks out there(no cheeck piece)but once past these, two truly accurate guns nothing to seperate them up to 45yds(hft)but once you get out to 55+yds the Steyr wins hands down for consistancy (still shooting with hft scope setup)plus the Steyr just feels bomb proof.Lucky to have both these so I can compare side by side whenever but that is just my opinion. If I was to recomend one I would say Steyr no Airwolf no Steyr no Airwolf etc etc etc:D

All i can say is the 60yard spinners at the club are no problem.

I shot spinners at 70 yards using my Wolf and an SR6 scope..much to the amzement of many fellow HFT'ers. There was a breeze and still hit them easily 10 out of ten. People that were using , in there words better guns and scopes could not hit them at all.

The Airwolf is an amazing gun.

As the one responsible for introducing you to the dropper, I extend my apologies and I am very glad Tony was able to sort out the damage and you now have (so it would seem) a better rifle than when you started.

The sad thing about it was that you were trying to help a young lad out and give him a shoot with a top bit of kit. The youngster in question (along with his sister) have gone through a bit of sh.1.t time of late and I took him out hoping to jolly him up a bit. Guess that didnt work either. All in all was a bit of a crap day for everyone

So from the both of us, a big sorry Roger :(

I have to say that I agree. I really liked my Airwolf once it was fettled by Tony but at distance, the Steyr takes the crown on those long range reducers we set out at the club at 55 yards plus. The Airwolf was inclinded to send a flyer out for reasons I could never identify but we are talking small reducers at 55 yds plus so even if it was a 40mm it would have still been game on.

They are though very different animals and I dont think it is fair to compare them like for like. On the FT side, the steyr is brilliant but on HFT it is not so good unless you go for the moulded stock hunter version.

However, for HFT and hunting the accuracy and the quietness of the Airwolf is really quite awsome and it doesnt change much FAC either.

The electronics were perfect in mine (once you switched off all the annoying beeps and lights) and it never missed a beat in that regard.

The magazines and the backfeeding of pellets into the breech were the issue I had with the airwolf. The mags seemed to gum up quickly and needed to be stripped, cleaned and re-aligned - not an easy job and I still havnt found that spring!!!!. However, they also fouled with the scope saddle of the unit I was using at the time so eye relief was a little bit of a compromise at the time but many mag fed rifles have this issue too so again it's important to get the right kit on top as well.

I sold mine principly because it was too nice a rifle to use for HFT AND hunting and I just kept worrying about whacking the rifle or scratching the stock..............not good medicine for accurate shooting and hunting.

I got an HW100 to replace it and I love this rifle for the HFT and hunting capabilities and I dont loose sleep if I go out hunting in the dark now as I can buy 2 of them for the same cost as 1 wolfie  .

I would certainly recommend the airwolf to those looking for a top end rifle and for those who want a very quite rifle indeed.

I would also recommend the Air Ranger for those who may still have reservations about the electronics. Even FAC this is an awsome rifle though the hammer noise is obviously more noticeable and intrusive.

Both of these rifles are quite superb bits of kit.

But for me, the Styer is a stayer :D
