Leica Rangemaster 1200 lrf scan

Recieved this the other day and I have to say I am very impressed with it. It will be compared to my bushnell yardage pro as this is what I was using up till now.

Optical Quality
The optical quality is as good as anything I have seen and I would probably leave my binos at home as this rangefinder has far better image quality than them and even though its only a monucular it is more than capable of spotting with a resonable 7 X mag. The optical quality is far superior to my bushnell yardage pro which was difficult to pick out a rabbit at 100 yards with. This wouldnt pose any problems for the leica picking out a rabbit at well over 100 yards would be easy. I cant stress how good the optical quality is I own a few high quality scopes and it isnt far behind them.

Rangeing Ability
The first thing that struck me was how fast you get the reading it is close to instant my bushnell took nearly 3 times as long to range it (if it even did). I was getting consistent readings out too 600 yards (this was as far as the land I was trying it out on went until a big hill stopped me) off anything I pointed at with no problems, the bushnell only kept up till about 200 yards and then it started not giving me readings on some things . I was also able to get readings off just plain ground out to 300 yards (I didnt get to try it any further at this as it started raining real hard and I high tailed it home).

Functions

It is very simple and has one button to range, to adjust from yards to metres there is a dial inside the battery cover which is easy to switch, the battery cover is removed via a coin slot, also another thing I liked was that the eye piece rotates to focus, which is a feature that my bushnell doesnt have, so I was able to fine tune to my eye allowing the best use of the superb optics. The eye piece has a rubber surround which can be turned down to allow use with glasses. The housing is rubber coated and comfortable in the hand the aiming point is a small illuminated square which I found very easy to line up with small targets and also works great at night. The rangefinder comes complete with a lanyard and a very nice case which is very well padded with a belt loop and plastic snap buckle with is nice and quiet to open, my old bushnell came with a very thin carry case with velcro opening which is far to noisy to use so I couldnt carry it with the case.

Overall I have to say that this rangefinder is exceptionally good and I cant really fault it yet, the only thing I will say is that it is quite big though when you have it on your belt you wont notice it at all, compared to my bushnell yardage pro its a million times better. For my uses it is far too good and ill probably never push myself out past 300 yards except on the odd occasion and this thing will range off anything I point at out to this range. It just screams quality when youre using it. If you dont have one get one.

ps I didnt comment on scan mode as I forgot about it and havent tried it out yet

I have the LRF 900 and have tried most of the competition which it leaves trailing. It is very easy to use and I can confirm the quoted accuracy to be within one yard as I have tried it against a tape measure. :)
The lenses are Leica quality and as such unbeatable.

My girlfriend gave me a pair of the Leica Geovid binoculars for Christmas. They are truly amazing. Now I have a pair of binoculars and rangefinder in one!

I have actaully been to the leica factory it is very impressive I work for a company that sells artillery directors and one is made by a company called vectronix which used to be part of leica the facility is very impressive and the staff canteen is the best I have ever been in!

part of the course we had to go on the factory roof to test a range finder the instuctor told me to piont it at a church steeple and take a reading to which I replied "which one?" there where dozens of the blooming things:D

best part of the trip going to a restaurant in the mountains and seeing someone draging a a freshly killed deer into the places own butchery needless to say I had venison that evening and very nice it was too:D

I also have the LRF900 and I totally agree with you they are a joy to use and the sight picture is fantastic for a rang finder.

so what are the main differences between the leica rangemaster 1200 lrf and the leica 900 model?

Hi, I think it,s just the distance you can scan at i.e. 1200 yds/meters against 900 yds/meters the LRF900 is being replaced by the CRF900.

The older LRF900 has a more robust feel about it,as it is rubber coated and you should be able to pick one up under £300.

Cheers,
Alan

I just bought myself a Leica LRF 900, after reading this thread and others and I am very impressed!
(I had a Bushnell Scout before, it really wasn`t that great).
The Leica gives 800+ yard readings on objects instantly, and it was a bright sunny day. The Bushnell struggled on anything past 300 yards, and optically just isn`t up to the job.
I did look at the new Leica CRF, but decided on the older LRF as it seemed to be more robust, but also a bit bigger which I think you need with rangefinders.
The CRF is a one handed model and I could not hold it steady enough with one hand to laser long distance targets.
This is the third laser rangefinder I have owned, as usual I bought a cheapy, then upgraded to the Bushnell, and found this to be only a bit better than the cheaper model. Now I have the Leica.
I should have bought this one to start with.:)
