On picking up this rifle I was very happy with the quality & feel of it. The build quality is equal to that of my Air Arms S410, with the blueing being of better quality.

The stock is very well finished & comfortable to hold. The rifle is extreamly well balanced & feels at home as soon as you pick it up.

A sharp tap on the barrel breaks the action & the effort to cock the rifle is about twice the effort as that of my Gamo Shadow Sport. However, the smoothness whilst cocking the rifle makes up for this. The action of the rifle has a very high quality feel to it.

All shots so far have been with Air Arms Field 4.52s. So far I have put approx' 250 pellets through it & yesterday afternoon, (18th January), I finally got round to setting up the scope at the range.

Initially I set the scope up on the rifle at home using a spirit level as I don't have the space to set up a plumb line. I then fine tuned it at the range.

It took about 50 shots to tweek the scope & once the scope was sorted, I continued to practise with the rifle.

I found the rifle much more easy to handle than the Gamo Shadow Sport. The main reason I feel is that the Gamo is a lot lighter than the Longbow. Also, the cocking action is smoother, although the pull, as previously stated, is heavier than the Gamo.

On cocking the rifle, inserting a pellet & closing the action, behind the action at the butt end of the rifle, a plastic, but solid push button safety catch pops out a fraction. The safety catch is now engadged. When ready to shoot, just push the safety catch forward slightly with your thumb & the rifle is ready to shoot.

The rifle has a lot less recoil than the Gamo & the trigger, set by the factory at 2lb pull, is smooth.

I'm still fairly new to this game, so I can't compare it to other rifles like the TX200 & the like, but this rifle is a beauty.

Even with my novice efforts I can manage decent groups, but not consistantly. This is down to me, not the riflle!:D

The range is approx' 17 metres long or 56ft. I managed to get a group of 3 in less than half an inch, but then I lost the plot & spoilt it!

Best groups were;- 7 within 3/4", a couple of 9s in just under an inch & several 10s in about an inch. More practice needed by me, but it's a load better than my efforts with the Gamo.:)

I've been using the rifle with the Venom lightweight silencer for all but a couple of shots, but it does work quite well.

As for power, I have a "test", for want of a better word, that gives me some idea of how pokey the rifle is & I gauge this by the efforts made by my S410 & the Gamo. Suffice to say that my guesstimate is that the Longbow is just a tad more powerfull than the Gamo, which was chrono'd at 11.5lb.ft on average. Alan at the range had put his foot through his chrono',:D, so I'll have to wait a bit to get it chrono'd. One day I'll get one of my own, but I keep getting seduced by all these nice looking rifles!:) I ought to get a scope with parrallax correction too! Still, it at least gives my girlfriend some ideas for birthdays etc.

Anyway, to put it short, the rifle is great & up there with the S410 for build quality & accuracy, although as yet I am not consistant with it, which is all down to me.

What a great name for an Engish air rifle. "Longbow". Should have followed it up with one called "Agincourt"!:D. Mind you, it would be nice if they was still English!:(

Out of 3 grins I give it :D:D:D.

UPDATE!

Safety catch is made from aluminium, not plastic. Thanks mylof1tz.

Nice review. My only criticism of the longbow is the absence of holes in the cylinder for scope arrestor studs. A classy rifle and very pleased I bought mine when I did.

mylof1tz;-

Yes I noticed that, but compared to some springers I have had a go with, not that many mind, the recoil & vibration is very much reduced. Have you had any problems with the scope moving at all?

No they can't. The dovetails curve slightly in from about half an inch from the rear end of the cylinder, then you have to place the mount about another half inch further on beacuse of the curve in the cut of the dovetail, otherwise the mount does not fit correctly.

Agree about the arrestor pin - would be useful. I have had some problems with scope creep previously, which I think were down to the mounts on the rifle when I bought it. I would prefer one piece but have a SWAT compact (30mm tube) and couldn't find one of a suitable length. I have stuck some double clamp Sportmach mounts on and all has been ok so far; I am now a bit paranoid about it though.
Good review - I agree with you:nice quality, well balanced, accurate and good power. A nice springer :)
