Hi
Just a heads upto Geoffrey and Nightvision Supplies. Recently purchased a Merlin Gen 1 Monocular with day scope adaptor. Had lots of impartial advice from Geoffrey before parting with my money, and was impressed with the speed of delivery in getting it to me at short notice for the weekend.
The unit itself I tried with my normal scope, a Hawke Nite-Eye, which wasnt on the recommended scope list so was a bit worried on whether it would work as well (getting 70% image etc) Neednt have worried as it worked fine, currently got my brother-in-laws AGS Swat scope on it though and the images with that are superb.....cant believe you can get that quality with a GEN 1 system. Got the IR Laser which helps incredibly and would advise anyone purchasing to go for that other LED, even with the extra cost....
Set up is pretty easy after initially sorting out which clips etc to use to get the scope a nice fit on the adaptor.

There is a Long Eye Relief model, for guns with recoil like full-bore/CF rifles. But it's widely believed the dual direction recoil of a springer would wreck this type of NV. I am told that Semi-Recoilless models might be suitable because the recoil isn't quite as dramatic.
I have used them on an unmoderated .223 and broken the adapter, not the NV. [I think it had been poorly machined to be honest, but I did break it. :D ]
Sadly, 'best practice' suggests not to try on a springer. :o

I don't know of any other manufacturers but our S50 Pro dedicated scope is fine on springers and any other heavy recoiling rifle.

You can use our low profile adapters to mount it to your dovetails but I would suggest an arrestor block behind the front adapter to stop the mounts creeping. Or use the B-Square adapter as it has a long clamping bearing surface.

I would be interested in one of the "add-on" type rather that a full NV scope that would leave the rifle as a dedicated night set up.
I wouldn't want to be putting it on and taking it off and having zero for each trip out. I also rather like spring powered recoiling rifles and so at present would rather avoid the necessity of moving into PCP to get into NV.
Spring is coming so I will soon be able to go out to play later and later, or start earlier and earlier anyway!!
Cheers chaps.
Philip.

Philip,
You can use decent QR weaver mounts and swap between day and night scopes without losing zero. See at the bottom of this linked page:

That is an almost identical set up to the one I have on my HW100. Three lo-pro dovetail to weaver converters, the rear two for the NVRS and it's built in weaver mounts. The front two mounts mate up with my JSR fitted with Leupy quick release weaver rings. I took the precaution of using some shim steel (bits of feeler gauge) under the lo-pro mount screws so as to not mar the finish on the HW's action.
Zero doesn't shift much at all and I can swap over scopes in about a minute.
Will post some pics if anyone is interested (I might post 'em even if you're not :D ).
Oh, and NV scopes will sell you three mounts :)

Recurve,
Indeed post some pics!
That's the exact same setup I use on my HW100K for mounting. Perfect NV rifle IMO.
To get even more repeatability with zero I follow the same procedure each time:
1 Put scope on loosely and tighten up mounts till there is just enough play to move the scope backwards and forwards within the confines of the crossbars / grooves on the bases.
2 Slide scope all the way forward to push firmly against the front of the cross bar.
3 Tighten front mount fully and then rear
Try and use the same tighening torque each time. I use thumb and index fingertip only and tighten as hard as possible. This method is very repeatable.
This is how the military have been doing it for years, except they use mounts with hex nuts on and a calibrated torque screwdriver.
Cheers

Interesting ... I have the SR6 and was put off because it wasn't on the list and didn't want to buy a new scope ...
