hi all, how long does night vison last as i my mate reckons they have short life and they no good when its a cloudy night is this ******** or what as i will be buying some nv at some point mainly for short range work

They last ages, and if you have a half decent illuminator you can see in complete darkness. Your mate could do with reading up a bit.

From reading a few sources the life span for Gen1, 2 and 3:

Gen 1 about 1,500 hours of continuous operation
Gen 2 about 2,500 hours of continuous operation
Gen 3 10,000+ hours of continuous operation
