View Full Version : I will start it off
I enjoyed a bit of plinking yesterday in my garden (until my fingers froze!) Using my old MKI Airsporter I think is 1956 vintage (no scope rail at all) with flip up loading tap, this old girl is in good original condition apart from a recent tune up to the rather impressive velocity of 11 (plus a little bit)ftlb using JSBs, anyway I hit five out of five 12g cases at 45 yds with the open sights, which for eyes that are getting on a bit now I didnt think too sad, ok so I did miss a few on other goes but it was an enjoyable hour:)

I know its not that old really but. still Very collectible IMHO.
A friend came round today to show me what I can only describe as A mint PE, the action/barrel is perfect and it shoots excellent.
It's a pleasure to cock, and it feels so positive when closing the barrel, Might be me but it seems old engineering is better.:D
Great guns indeed.:D

Hi Baz,
Oh the memories, my first 'real rifle' was a 2nd hand MK1 airsporter .22 when I was 11 IIRC, so 1962. As you say iron sites or nought, & the automatic opening loading tap, why did they ever change that? I earnt more with that rifle than any other - ever!
I used to shoot vermin for the water board - their land of course, I'm trying to remember the bounty rates  I think it was something like; 3d for Rats, 6d for Squirrels, Rooks & Magpies, & 1/- for Rabbits, all I know is I made more than enough to pay for ammo, & Heritage's in Hailsham used to pay really good money for the squirrels tails & Magpie feathers.
Those really were the days! :) :o :D & Yes I wish I still had that rifle now

I have just taken delivery of a MK5 Airsporter-the gun i always coveted as a nipper:) (Till Weihrauch launched the 77,anyway).
I intend to use it foe close range, open sighted hunting and for fun plinking with my nephew.
Well done on getting this section up and running:)
