Hi,
Have a XVD with 100 Mw Yukon illuminator. Good for shooting up to 60 - 65 yards with FAC airgun but want to schoot up to 80 yards with FAC airgun and rimfire. Adding a second 100 Mw illuminator (instead of expensive IR laser), will this give a more clear picture ?
Rgds,
Yoeri.

I was out tonight compairing a yukon 100 vs 90mw laser with a cobra merlin gen1 and Bens (bennyblanco) gen2+ thingy and the difference is astounding. Okay, the gen2 with the laser was sickeningly good, but even my merlin gen1 with the laser was clear out to silly ranges. With the yukon the merlins okay out to my desired 12ftlb range, but when funds can be arranged a laser is on the cards for me.

It's unlikely to extend the range more than another 5 yards, if you want the best performance there is theres no other alternative, the IR Lasers are fantastic..
They are expensive but worth the money, ask anyone that's upgraded to a IR Laser, there are Hi Power LED Illuminators about but they are not as good, fullstop.
Regards Rob
As Rob has stated, the IR laser is a must and if you ever upgrade your NV you keep the IR laser.
I was reading a post on 100 Mw Yukon illuminator and the IR Laser and is it worth the extra expense when shooting with a sub 12fpe rifle, well i would say YES as you can see your target at a greater distance and work out the best way to get closer, taking into account the wind direction.
I have both the 100mw and the IR laser and find both have their advantages, i use the 100mw when shooting near trees and hedges as with the IR laser you do get alot of reflection back into the scope if you get too close to trees or bushes.
If possible try one out on your set up before buying , you won't be dissapointed ;)

Not finished checking yet, but I do have a new HIGH perfomance LED illuminator, that looks to be better than the Yukon unit.... ;)
Will do full report Tuesday. :)

I'm looking to purchase an additional illuminator in the very near future but I haven't fully decided on the type. What is the cost difference between the Yukon and your new High performance LED illuminator?:)

About £40.
If weather holds, will be doing the testing tonight.
I have Gen I and Gen II+ tubed equipment to try them on, (Gen III Wednesday).
I have 3 LED IR illuminators to compare...... Anyone wants to have a look too, they'd be very welcome. :)

Pity I don't live nearer. What are the 3 illuminators you're testing?

Yukon one.
The back plastic type also sold by S.B. before they went belly up.
And a new supa-dupa one.
Weather not looking very good here at the moment..... :(
