Hi,

Just thought id add my 2p's worth on the NV forums....

I recently purchased a D300 Gen 2+ Mil spec mono from the US. I'll tell anyone who asks the reasons i bought this were two fold:

1, Will come in handy for work.
2, Once all the bits are sourced it will be a handy addition to my 'armoury'.

Truth be known im a bit of a geek and have always been fascinated with NV and always wanted a decent ish NV setup. I managed to free up a bit of cash i.e sold loads of carp on the bay and bought this, i was initially intending to buy in the UK but frankly the prices scared me so took the plunge and ordered it stateside (currency rates are spectacular at the moment too) ordered, shipped and arrived with no hassle what so ever.

I probably would have waited until i could afford a Gen 3 model but with the US' cosmic export restrictions this was the best they could export (although these restrictions still annoy me greatly  ).

Ive not used the unit in anger yet as im still toying with how i want to use it (cage/dayscope or NV/Holo etc). I have however been out and used it as a handheld and my current location excells at having nothing around for miles.

Its still early days yet with the unit but overall im more than happy. It does exactly what im after. Ive taken a few pics with it but they do not reflect the actual picture (my digi camera doesnt have macro so tries to focus automatically and im holding it by the eye piece), real life picture is a whole lot better.

Anyway, heres the pics:

Taken in very dark living room, no IR (http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4803/nv1do5.jpg)

Same as above but with IR on (http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/8119/nv2ud0.jpg)

Normal urban pic, no IR but quite light (http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/4268/nv3en2.jpg)

In my garage, quite dark IR on (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9740/nv4do4.jpg)

As i mentioned above once i actually know how i want this mounted ill update this thread for anyone whos interested.

Regards,

Dave.

P.S Sorry pics are a bit on the large side :o

Hi Ste,

Got it from http://www.opticshq.com/

No tax was added US side. Overall i saved £350 on the UK price of the same unit (which cant be bad :))

You should really consider speaking to the UK members of the BBS who own NV related shops and see what they can do for you (one option i didnt persue before purchasing).

Also have a look at OHQ's forums if you have the time and inclination:

http://www.nightvisionforums.com/

Theres a fair amount of info there which may help you decide.

HTH,

Dave.

hi dave , you have got the unit i have been looking at and was thinking of getting, keep us informed!

what tube did you get supplied, do you know of the data sheet?

i was thinking of using it both behing eotech which is better then an aimpoint apparently more field of view - il send the link to you, also has a 1 moa dot aimpoint smallest one is 2moa.

iv used nv with an aimpoint though and think its awesome. but have never hunted with a red dot. anyone?

using behind a scope is always another option, horses for horses!

anybody else got an opinion on these units ?
