Running a 16" R2 at that sort of power you might like to try the AA Field/JSB Exacts. They will be more vulnerable to crosswinds but they are excellent pellets for most uses. I personally only use Bismags in my 40 ft lb fast flow R2 as the MV is great at around 920 ft sec whereas a lighter pellet would be going transsonic..

I agree with Nick. I use JSB's in my FAC mk1 and although you lose a small amount of thump at the target, there's still way enough energy for what you need.
Mine has a 19" BSA barrel fitted now.:)

:D Hey Nick
I have tried AA field and 18grain Exterminators but both the mentioned pellets were not consistant on the target and produced irregular groupings. The Biz mags were the consistant pellet, grouping pellet on pellet at 40m zeros. The hope was to use AA field as it would have given the higher muzzle velocity and flatter trajectory! I am not worried about the hitting power as I feel it is almost irrelevant when these power levels are reached. I only go for headshots. It doesn't require much power (approx 3-4ftlbs) to dispatch quarry such as pigeon and rabbit via the temple. :D I may give the AA field another go as the flatter trajectory always excites me!!
Cheers

Get the rifle up to 34ftlb and use your bis mags,850fps will be superb at the power level I've just told you and will keep the pellet flying perfect with the best tight groups you'll ever produce at 70-100yds.
I had a bit of a plink at the farm today, the weather was just perfect,no wind to disturb the pellet and the groups I did at 80yds were amazing so did the bsa hornet yesterday which is running at the same power and use's the same pellet.
30-34ftlb is a nice level for this pellet and will perform the best, tried alsorts of power in .22 and pellets after a long hard tiring period this is best you'll ever get out of a waisted pellet and will dispatch any rabbit or woodie at the long range's all day long.;)

I am being thick here! This is my old rifle and I had forgotten what Simon told me about pellets! Clearly the barrel likes BisMags and that is fine. I would leave it as it is.:D
as this rifle is regulated I always charged to 232 BAR. Bear in mind that with warming as you charge, you probably should fill to 240 bar and it will cool down to give the right pressure.

Hi SI-snipe,
Sorry about this Costas :D but i have to ask SI-snipe.. . what sort of barrel are you using? I know you mentioned it was 16" long but i'm just wandering what make it is.
Thanks, Gra

Graeme, as I fitted the barrel I can tell you it was a standard 16" Anschutz with enlarged porting. As you know using the shorter barrel reduces the power by up to 2 ft lb, reduces air efficiency slightly but gives a 'handier' rifle for field use.
Costas will also tell you-if you ask him nicely:D that when changing from BisMags to AA Field or any other pellet for that matter-it is a good idea to clean and re-lead the barrel with the new pellet before conducting accuracy tests. This is because the formulations of the 2 pellet types are different and interact with the barrels differently especially at higher power levels.
Simon you may care to try that? However, as BisMags work so well for you there may be little advantage except cost. AA Field £5/6 for 500, BisMags around £10 for 500.:p

Hey Nick
Thought you hadn't clicked about your ex rifle! :D Didn't want to mention it in case you became offended. :D I tried the cleaning and re-leading process with both sets of pellets. The Exterminators were the closest match to the Mags but still more 'flyers' were produced from them. Think I'll stick to the mags as I know where they are going when I point the rifle! :D

Nothing offends me Simon!:D Some barrels just prefer certain pellets-yours prefers BisMags and so the decision is easy-keep on using BisMags!!:p
If you fancy a change-try a 19" barrel. A bit more power, bit more air efficient but a little bit less 'pointable' in confined spaces-if that is an issue for you?
That is actually why I have 2 FAC Rapids. One is BT regulated, has a 16" barrel, 28/9 ft lb, shoots AA Fields at 900+ ft sec. Ideal in still conditions. The other has a fast flow with 21" barrel set to shoot BisMags at 40 ft lb (920 ft sec) and is great when I am shooting that bit further. For anything else there is .22LR!

Where on earth did you come up with that number?
I buy mine for £3.00 per 200 for a tin of Bis Mags so for a tenner I'd get 700 pellets.:p :p :D :D
Do your sums properly, useally your good with money nick,:D must be all that money making projects effecting your noodles.:D :D :D

Am i right in thinking the Anchutze barrels tend not to like the AA Fields the nearer 30 fp you get:eek: . Just an observation and i'm only generalising, not saying it is without exception:cool: . Think that's covered my back enough:D

The thing is I think is the high pressure blast blows the aa field pellet far too tight in the riflings thats why the pellet wont group nicely,30ftlb is too much for the 16gr pellet, its sweet spot is 26ftlb,at this power level this pellet will put pellet on pellet right out to 70yds,it'll group so lovely right out to 100yds,start turning the power up the pellet tumble's and is not stable,it is also prone to cross-winds.Now the other thing I noticed that at that power of 30ftlb the barrel gets very dirty, alot of lead build-up,now at the lower level of 26ftlb the barrel stays really clean and does not disturb the pellet. My findings are for a .22 you will need 1.63ftlb per every grain of lead,so a AAfield is 16gr,so 1.63ftlb x 16gr=26ftlb,bis mag is 21.4 x 1.63= 34ftlb.Remember this is my tests and findings done on waisted pellets and not bullits like ely mags or pile-drivers which will handle super-magnum power with perfect accuracy.

Graeme, I run my 16" Anschutz barrel-acquired from Costas who wanted something BIGGER -at around 28/29 ft lb with AA Field. Spot on!! Simon-who bought my original Rapid 2 -found as I did that at 30 ft lb or near enough, the barrel preferred BisMags.
Cos-on the price of BisMags £3 for 200 does assume a bulk purchase but yes you are right:o

Costas I think I shall turn the power of my 16" Rapid down to 26 ft lb as you recommend. If I do, how will my shot count improve? Given that my rifle-as you know-is accurate as it is, I don't want to fiddle with it unless I will gain something-and that something has to be air economy.:)

Nick when I had my mk2 with the barrel you have now it was 26ftlb from BT,I put bis mags through it and turned the power up to 28.5ftlb,at this level I found the AA's did not group as well out to 70yds as they did when the power was 26ftlb,the bis mags woked well at 28.5 but I took the rifle to ben and did alsorts of up-grades and power-level,with the adjuster at the back I could turn the power up 4ftlb,at tests that I did I found 34ftlb the bis mag performs the best tightest group you'd ever want.
The MFR was FAC'd to 26ftlb with AA fields and that was awesome, and I mean awesome,so accurate it was perfect, once I took off the 16ins barrel and shroud I up't the power to 30.5 with the 19ins barrel, the aa fields were tight but prone to cross-winds,at the 26ftlb they were more stable out in open space's so thats why I found the bis mag for me spot-on.
The 16in barrel you have off me is a super accurate barrel and at the 26ftlb with AA fields 5.52 it performed very accurate, cant ask more off the rifle thats its best that I found and sometimes I wonder all this running up and down, selling that to get this ,more power more this more that at the end it all comes back to accuracy so if you like aa fields in this barrel 26ftlb and 90 full power shots is perfect.90 SHOTS I use to get with the 16ins barrel and a 220 bar fill in my 400cc bottle.
You know I'am right nickolas.:D

I was toying with the idea of dropping it slightly for the AA field but in reality I am used to the trajectory and POI at various ranges so am probably best to leave well alone.
