I know that Logun sometimes get a slagging off on the BBS and really that’s what prompted me to be bothered to write a review. Also I’m aware that some early FX rifles had leaking problems but I have to say that I rate mine in FAC format and it’s been a good reliable all round hunting tool so far.
I purchased the rifle as new and unused from the BBS in sub 12lb/ft for the right price and had it converted to FAC by Logun for £80 over a year ago. I’ve waited till now to do a review as in my opinion only time and use gives a true picture of how a rifle performs in the real world.
For a full size rifle it’s light enough to carry round your shoot, due to the small synthetic stock and it has an adjustable length stock and butt pad so it can be set up perfectly for your style and it should suit shooters of all sizes.
The synthetic also means that it’s truly an all weather gun and damage to your prized walnut isn’t an issue. Personally I like the military look as well, but I know that’s not to everyone’s taste.
The biathlon cocking method is slick and quick and can be done whilst still on aim, great for back up shots.
The 8 shot mags are the usual trouble free easy to load FX rotary jobs and with a little lube on the o-ring now and again, have proved 100% reliable after thousands of pellets.
I have the shrouded version, which in 12lb/ft format is fine with no moderator, but wind up the power and it really does go off with a loud crack and a silencer is a must. This creates a couple of negative points.
One is its length once a silencer is fitted. If you miss the shot you can beat your quarry over the head with it! With a normal ½ inch UNF fitting ready to take a mod, it’s easy to fit one but it does make it a bit cumbersome once on. The solution: I’ve just ordered an over barrel silencer from Jon at ###########.co.uk so hopefully that’s that sorted.
The second issue is that it has a free floating barrel which is fine and consistently accurate with no mod fitted, but fit one and it becomes all too easy to move the barrel with a small knock and your POI is all over the shop! The solution is to fit a barrel band. These are £12 off AGS for a Logun Solo one to fit the un-shrouded version or £25 to a local engineer who machined me a trick alloy one for mine….Sorted!
It’s quick and easy to fill with the quick fill probe and having a reservoir and a bottle, it holds loads of air and has an on board gauge, which I find handy to give you an idea of what’s in it if you haven’t used it for a while.
In sub 12ft/lb it gives well over 500 shots per fill.
In FAC it depends, as there are three different power settings at the flick of a lever and depending on pellet choice, mine is doing 34-38lb/ft with aprox 60-70 full power shots, 21-23lb/ft with about 130-140 shots and 14-17ftlbs with well over 200 (I got bored of counting so don’t know for sure)!
All power levels gave an acceptable level of consistency as well.
With the different settings it really is one rifle for all types of hunting as it gives the facility to wind power down when needed.
To summarise, I would highly recommend one for the following reasons:
Number of shots per fill / Accuracy / Trouble free fast cocking / On board pressure gauge / Three power levels / All weather synthetic stock
I don’t actually know if anyone’s importing the Gladi8or at the moment. FX still produce it, but as far as I’m aware, currently BTAS only import the Storm and Verminator and AGS / Logun no longer buy from FX? Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, I’m sure.
As testament to my like of the rifle, I’ve just bought a Verminator (Gladiator meets hacksaw!!).
