I could not get any Winchester Subs that I have always used in my .22 Ruger 77 and CZ Varmint, and it was suggested that I try Eco from RWS. They are not hollowpoints or subsonic as they are STANDARD velocity, but not high power. As was mentioned I was asked, have you found a round in a rabbit when shooting subs? and the answer is no. I bought 500 at £17 , and that price is far removed from the nearly £30 that I was paying for Winnies. I thought that they would be dirty as they were low cost. How wrong I was. They are cleaner than Winchester, more accurate, slightly more noisy but not enough to spook my Lurcher who hates bangs - which was my ultimate test. I have had no misfires or zimmers! and will be buying them again. I seem to have shot a lot of rabbits lately and they have all dropped stone dead. The oven seems to be full, with me cooking them, with Lurch my lurcher lying near the oven waiting for his dinner. And the bullets smell nice - unlike Ely's.

With the prices and stock of the "usuals" in mind i've just tried Eley Standard, which are a target round, but they are very accurate in my CZ and at £3.20 for 50 cheap enough, they seem to be subsonic - Eley website says 1085 fps.
Rabbits don't seem to notice the difference either:D
Local dealer wants £4.40 for Eley subs now:eek:

They are waxed but not as waxed or as sticky as Winchester. Absolutely no cycling or feed problems in the Ruger 77/22, have not tried them in the CZ yet. Good packaging unlike the Ely. I got them from Sandwell field Sports in West Bromwich.

Anyone tried these in a Savage? The reason I ask is that last time i bought .22LR my usual ammo (Winchester X) was out of stock and I bought Eley subs which were fine. I then tried some Lapua-forget the type but they were the cheapest- and they wouldn't eject even after careful checking and cleaning of the breech and claw.. Funnily enough the higher priced Lapua were fine. The cases just seemed to expand more than other brands and I proved this using a micrometer measuring 'before and after'.

If it is RWS Geko that's being discussed here, they were faultless in my CZ and grouped as well as Lapua Match ammo ( at nearly 5 times the price...)
They wouldn't eject from my Martini though....

I'm now using RWS hollow point subs, very accurate and consistant, and at £54 a 1000, cheaper than Eley subs which I've always used before.

Used tham and have had some sat for about a year unused. I've found that they overpenetrate leaving bunnies with a hole in the head and a puzzled look on their face.
