View Full Version : Gamo 10m Pistol Competition
Powderfinger
26-08-2007, 08:23 AM
Time for kick off with the first two cards from me and my friend, John...
"Chucky" Rockphoon (1) 37x50 (2) 39x50 [Gamo Compact, RWS Hobby, 24.8.7]
John "The Postie" Brotherton (1) 39x50 (2) 36x50 [Compact, pellets unknown, 24.8.7]
Not high scores yet but we'll shoot another couple of cards and see how things go. John tends to compete with the rifle rather than the pistol but I'm a pistolman through and through so I should be getting better results than that.
Anyone else had a go yet?

hi, ive not done mine yet, however regards the Asi/Gamo falcon, i had one years ago, its was a spring underlever pistol and would be at a disadvantage against us Compact shooters... but if they want too:rolleyes::), i would say that the PR45 (compact with normal grips) would be comparable and maybe the AF10 too (no adjustable trigger though)......
unless we have a Handicap system/class system....
just my 2ps worth, chaps

Sorry G
I gave you duff info on Falcon
As Paul says it is a spring gun
Just to clarify on models, this is an advert from a 1990 AGW
Gamo Falcon - spring underlever - £42
Gamo Centre - spring underlever (no safety) with better grips - £52
Gamo Target - spring underlever with anatomical grips - £62
Gamo PR15 - pneumatic repeater using lead ball - £53
Gamo PR45 - single stroke pneumatic with plastic grips - £63
Gamo Compact - single stroke pneumatic with anatomical walnut grips -£89.95
Sorry no mention of AF10 (perhaps it's a later model?)

Ok guys just to make it a bit more intersting (only a bit mind, they don't call me "Arkwright" for nothing in my village!) The eventual winner at the end of 6 months will get a tin of 500 High Speed Match Kugeln .177 pellets as a token prize. I would say they were supplied by one of my business's but don't know if I am allowed to mention the website, if anyone wants to know PM me!
Best of luck
Graeme
p.s. cheers for the update on the gun models guys, I am guessing anyone with a PR45 should be able to enter as well as they only have a grip difference.

Me and John would like to consider those scores as our first two match cards. We'll submit another two by the 25th. Slightly against the rules, I know but I was keen to get this contest kicked off. For next month, we'll shoot all 4 cards in one go. On pistols, I have no objection to anyone using the other Gamo pistols but the Compact is definitely the best one to use - SSP, target grips, direct-loading breech, adjustable trigger and chunky Patridge style sights. A chap at Sutton Coldfield R&PC uses a FAS pistol and it's obvious where Gamo copied the compact from. If enough people are prepared to chip in, I'll get some Gamo Pistol Comp 2007 souvenir medals printed. Don't expect them to be made of gold though!

Hi Herx77, certainly not too late. See the thread " blowing my own trumpet" , http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215337for the rules. Target card is standard NSRA 10 metre Pistol card.
Good luck.

Hi guys,
I'm glad to see that the guide on adjusting the Compact trigger on my 'Postcardfromspain' website is of use to you :)
Even doing the 1st stage of trigger adjustment, deepening the hole, works very well right up to the point where you almost have a hair trigger :)
To compensate for muzzle flip, blue-tacking melted down pellets into the front recess hole works quite well.
Just a note; Although the Compact is advertised as having an adjustable trigger, it's bull. The only adjustment you can really make is turning the blade to the left or the right........:( That screw in the plastic does absolutely nothing unless the hole is deepened which allows the screw to actually make contact ;):p
The Gamo AF10 is a kids Co2 plinker which shoots lead balls........ok for tin cans at 5 yards :D

cheers Nige,
ive just completed stage 1 of operation "must get a reasonable score":D,
ive just widened the front hole(ooer) and it works:)
trigger seems alot better now, i would even say it seems lighter too:confused: perhaps the increased angle helps to trip the sear...
also as an added bonus i still have all my fingers and the gun is still working and immaculate....
many thanks for that site:)

Hi Graeme
Wait for it:-
27; 27; 27; 28 (Total 109)
Room for improvement I believe!
There is no palm shelf on my Compact so obviously at a massive disadvantage!

Improvement is what its all about, hopefully competing will spur us all on a bit, and of course the palm shelf should help.

My last two scores for September: 34x50 and 42x50. Slight improvement with the last card! My score for September is 152x200. To encourage entries, I will put the names of everyone who enters (except me) in my hat and will pick someone out at random. The name chosen will get a special Gamo Pistol Competition prize sent to them. It will have to be a UK resident as it might cost too much to post abroad.

do we send you the cards?
we should be submitting scores soon.

I'm up for this, not fired my Compact for ages so it'll be good to get it out:)
Can I clarify some rules please?
I assume it's one handed shooting, as 10m?
Is there a specific height for the target above the floor in the 10m rules?
Had you thought about scans of the targets as an alterntive to photos?
Now to start modding the trigger and adding lead to the front;)
Cheers

HI Petroc, nice to have you on board, you must have agreat girlfriend if you can leave her with instructions to buy, if I told mine to buy a gamo compact she would come back with a pot of makeup or a small family car!
Targets are standard NSRA 10m pistol targets.
Rather than get messed up wityh posting and all its hazards, the entrants agreed to be honest and just report their scores here on this thread, they are then updated by me further up the same thread. Their is a token prize of a tin of pellets (High Speed Match Kugeln .177) and Rockphoon is kindly adding a mystery award to a randomly chosen entrant. The competition is really not about prizes though, more to get you to use and become more proficient with your gun and enjoy using it and the challenge of improvement, shooting against others adds that extra motivation.
Cheers and good luck

Hi John welcome on board,
One handed? yes.
Height of target...er I will have to measure my clubs targets and let you know what height they are at, not considered this question before as I assumed most entrants would be club shotters with a standard height target. Good question.
Photos/scans, it was generally felt that we are all honest people on here and as we are not competing for an enourmous prize that submitting scores on this thread would suffice, and not everyone has access to scanners etc. However, should anyone wish to display their cards they are more than welcome to.
When we get Gamo Compact 10m to hit the big time and we get a national team together between us then we may have to address the scrore submission method again!
Cheers

p.s. monthly scores when submitted are compiled on a relpy further back on this thread.

If your sticking to the ISSF rules then the target height should be:
The centre of the target should be 1.4m +/-0.05m above the level of the floor of the firing point
Not sure if your following the ISSF rules.

hope that makes sense.
do we take the lowest score in the event of a broken line?

Hi Petroc, the target we are using ( I hope!) is the 6th target down on thsi webpage http://www.nsra.co.uk/Shop2/Shop_html/airgun.htm
Broken line scores count the highest value.

I think that actually helped, I only did 2 sighting shots as it was cold and getting wetter and just 'got on with it', no messing about and just shot without checking where they went, everything in the black and no corrections seems to help the grouping.;)
The daft thing is that I don't get any benefit from the trigger technique when shooting HFT as I shoot rifles left handed and pistols right handed.

Hi
Just came across this thread - is it too late to join in?
I've had my Gamo compact a couple of years. One of the first things I did was to investigate the trigger adjustment. I havent changed the spring but found that the adjustment screw is the same type as those used to fix electrical switches / sockets to their plastic boxes.
After experimenting a bit I cut one of these bolts down from the original inch to about 1 cm , filed a new screwdriver notch in one end and replaced the original adjuster screw which , as has been pointed out , is too short.
As yet I havent had a missfire - going off when one closes the barrel - but the let-off weight is pretty light. Much better that as was originally supplied.

Hi Russ
feel free to join in, we seem to have had a few folk dropout of the last round, however as it is mainly for fun and practice with only a token prize then its not a problem.
As you have no doubt read in the threads it is more about keeping the pistol in use.
I have had requests to look at opening out the competition, so after this one has run its course will look at what other pistols people are happy competing with, initially I am thinking just about anything except pcp, this would open it up to a bigger audience, and I believe would still leave the Gamo with a fighting chance in the right hands ( Snooper601 for instance seems to be making the gun very much his own!)
Again welcome, and look forward to adding your scores to list list on or before the 25th.

If you do open it out, I'd enjoy taking part with my Alfa CO2. Even though it carries a silly price in this country (if you can find it) it only cost a little more than the Gamo in it's native Czech Republic. Like the Tau, it is certainly not very exotic!

The IZH 46 would be another good candidate

Are you sure Rog? Just checked and according to what I see it says 113.
Interestingly though I notice gaps in between the dashes which don't show when I try and edit them out.
Anyone else not seeing the fuull scores???

Rockphoon, Snooper601, score updated. Thank you.
With a score of 181 I don't think you need any excuses Snopper! Well done.
Rockphoon, nice to see you are maintaining your higher scores as well.
by the way if someone on here knows how to set a Poll let me know, I can't figure it out and want to set one in regard to the next pistol competition. I will actually sponsor it to the extent of a voucher or payment of some sort to be used at the forum sponsors site, Ramsbottom. I tried to get a mod to pm me and run the idea by them but as no one replied I will go ahead and just do it anyway.
p.s. John where did you shoot your HFT, weren't at Kibworth by any chance were you?

Shepreth, 2nd in the recoiling, I would have done Kibworth as well if I had not been working on Saturday.:(
Wendover for the 2nd round of the Southern Hunters next Sunday:D
I ought to try out my 20mm kill Rat and my 15mm Squizzer HFT targets with the pistol for a laugh:D Not sure if 2 fpe will knock them down though.

I was down at BAR on Friday and I just had to treat myself to a Compact... :D lovely gun and I have fancied one for quite a while, just need to find time and space to shoot it, and really need to find out how to ease of the weight of the second stage of the trigger... think I might even have a go at some of the comps on here...
Just a thought, what pellets are prefered with this gun as the ones in the tin that were with the gun are really bad, haven't found one skirt that isn't bashed.

Hi Photoguy
glad you enjoy your new gun. A new pistol comp is starting on " another pistol comp " thread, feel free to join in, there is even a token prize involved!
My compact seems to have a dislike for "RWS hobby" pellets, occasionally it will not spit them out for some reason, I have like others found the r10's a better choice.

I have had a look at the other thread, think I might just have a try.
I will have a go with a few pellets and see what works... no, off to print some targets :D

I'll pick a name of a competitor at random and send them a new tin of pellets as Xmas prize. I'll PM the winner and ask for an address where I can send the pellets to you in a Jiffy bag. (Note: If you use your works address please be sure that your colleagues are not the type to have a stroke or phone the Old Bill on seeing a tin of airguns pellets!)

My December scores :-
10 9 9 8 8 =44
9 9 8 8 8 =42
9 8 8 8 7 =40
9 8 8 8 7 =40
Total = 166
Not to my usual standard, a bit cold outside and the full 20 sighters needed to get the gun warmed up. Bad head cold with general aching made it more problematical than usual.

I hear you John, but that was the whole idea of a monthly setup, so that everyone would get time to shoot their cards.
But I am nothing if not accomadating.
So does anyone need more time to submit this months cards?

I was going to shoot my card the other day but having to shoot it outside and with the weather here being cra..... well, not good made it hard, then coming down with the lergie means I haven't even touched a gun in weeks.
Guess I will just have to miss out this round... but next month..... just look out (I just hope beginers luck helps as I've only put 3 shots through the gun).

I'm shooting in a couple of leagues so have not had time to shoot any Gamo scores for December. I'm very pleased at the way this competition has encouraged shooters to make good use of a the poor neglected Gamo. Some of you have shot some very impressive scores. I used mine in the West Midlands Open Championships. I only shot 500x600 that day but it beat quite a few expensice PCPs. I will notify the winner of the Gamo Comp Xmas draw in a few days.

I just wish I could get out and shoot a card, the wind hasn't eased in weeks... I would have to aim about 3 feet off the target to even hit it.

Ah, like a numpty I initially entered this on the wrong thread!! Oh well, here it is:
Hi, hope its not too late to join this comp, as I've recently got myself a gamo compact. January score card 40 (5, 8, 10,9 ,8) 27 (0, 8, 8, 6, 5) 37 (4, 7, 8, 10 ,8) and 29 (8, 7, 4, 3, 7) total = 133.

Hi there, I have added your scores to the other competition. This one is now in its final stages and ends with February cards. If you still want them posting I can do, but like I say you may wish them to stay in the other competition as it is only two months into a 6 month run.
