Hi was in the gunshop at the weekend and was recommended some sierra blitzking ballistic tip bullets 50grn .224 (£17 per 100)
I reload for my 22-250 using remington brass, cci 200 large rifle primers and Varget.
I haven't managed to load any yet just wondering if anyone has used em before and have any info on how good/bad they are.
Cheers

I use Sierra Blitz King exclusively, in my .243.
I was using Vmax before them, the Sierras beat the Vmax in every department. I get better accuracy, more consistent velocity and greater expansion.

I have tried two types of bench rest ammo from sierra 52grn and 53grn and both were just okay. I would say the V -max and A-max bullets perform the best in my remi 700 .223

Used the Blitzkings in my 223 and I found vmax to be a more accurate round

I really rate the sierra blitzking range.....It all depends what works in your gun....but the 40s are by far the best in my 22 and the 80s are brill in the 6mm....
I've weighed them and they are remarkable consistent in weight
They are always nicely finished and consistent-looking (better IME than V and Amax)
I can't therefore agree with the mondeo tag.....IMHO they're up there with ze germans ;)

That was something else I found. The sierra's were nearly exact to the grain. At the time the Vax I had varied by up to five grains, as in some were 2 1/2 grains under 75, others were 2 1/2 grains over.

My god! +/- 2.5gr ! you must be kidding ! That is awful ? !
Yeah, the 40gr BKs and the 80s, too - were perfect, each and every one exactly right. That said, so were 200 105gr Amax ....
I was going to try some 87gr Vmax but not if they all need weighed and sorted...(especially given how hard they are to find!)
52 A-Max......The best .224 bullet available for fox IMHO.

sorry - the excellent 80s i was talking about were actually nosler ballistic tip varmints. The sierra blitzkings were 70gr IIRC

Precisely. That's why I ditched Vmax. Also I was getting variable expansion. Occasionally none at all, as in they were drilling a hole straight through the target species. Blitzkings were the nearest alternative.
As I said, it may have been a poor batch. That's what may come from buying several hundred at once. But on the other hand if they were O.K. A bulk purchase would have been a bonus.

Well it sounds like the BK's are pretty good.
Have got some 40grn Vmax to test em against!

By the way, I'm an old curmudgeon (if that's spelt right???). I once had an HMR. It was a complete bag of ########. I also slate them to the end of the earth as well as Vmax slugs.;)

Never tried sierra bullets (yet) as I got a stock of vmax to get through first. Having read comments here I will give them a go now. Out of interest has anyone experience with Speer (.243 100 gr spbt in particular)?

I have shot sierras 223/4 70gns and 308 68gns with good results at 600 yds.also A max 75 gns in 223/4 with exellent results in a tricky wind at 600.
BUT! if you want a superb bullet,LAPUA 223/4 70 GRN SCENAR'S ARE HARD TO BEAT!!!:):)

Admittedly not in a .243 but I did put 120 speer through my 6.5 x 55 and also my friends 6.5 x 55 - both different makes of 6.5 (and different weights of powder) and we both experienced the same problem - a perfect heart lung shot on a deer (red or roe) often resulted in the bullet fragmenting and ending up in the liver or tissue damage to a front leg but with the main part of the bullet exiting where it should.
Once we both changed to Nosler 120 gn ballistic the problem was solved
Just my 2p worth

I thought i'd weigh a load of 87gr vmax, just to be sure of their consistency, as i was very concerned by claims of 2.5gr variations!
Whilst they were not rock-solid consistent like the 80gr Bergers, they were pretty good - about half of them were very minutely lighter than the others but nothing bad at all. Which is what i found with the 105gr Amax.
Nosler 80gr BT varmints superb, as are 70gr Sierra Blitzkings
Finish is ordered thus:
Top: Nosler BTs and Sierra Blitzkings (perfect all the time)
Berger 80gr (lovely but HPs very slightly copper-filled sometimes-i filed them out with sharp blade so they were all the same)
LAst: Vmax and Amax. (frequent uneven head/BT interface)

I don't have any experience with .243 and Speer but I have used Speer "Hot Cor" soft points in 120 and 140 gn in 6.5mm and 150gn in .308. I would not recommend them ahead of Sierra Gamekings which offer best value for performance and accuracy. Speers best bullet is the TNT they are great fox medicine in any calibre and very accurate.
