Anyone have a favourite recipe for .243 Scottish deer legal round using Vit N160 and 100 grain SPBT's?
Lee load data gives a starting load of 35.9 grains (max 42.8) whilst Vit load data gives a start load of 42.7 (max 46.9) . I am planning to start with the lesser of the two (obviously) and work up to something that will hopefully fit the bill over the chrono whilst giving sub MOA accuracy.
Ambitious maybe  ?

I use 45 grains of N160 behind my 100 grain slugs. It gives 3000 fps, clover leaf groups, and does the job nicely.
BUT I recommend that you follow your Vithavouri manual carefully and develop a load to suit your own rifle. My load may not be suitable For your's

You might be trying to get a load from a powder you already have but about 44gn of N140 would probably be better in .243

N140 is ideal with light bullets in .243, but not 100 grain ones, mate. N160 is a far better choice with 100 grain ones in my opinion.

Id be very pleased to learn more about this.
I use V140 and V160, but have never used V160 for .243.
IVe had good results (in my rifle) with about 44gn of N140 and 100gn bullets.
But if V160 would provide an improvement then that would be good to know can you suggest a lower and upper powder limit and I may give this a try?
Thanks

I use N150 and it's perfect:p
Gives 100% burn at around 14 inches with 100 grain Sierra bullets and 39 grains of powder. MV of around 2950 fps as well. Groups well in both my .243's.
I found the N160 didn't give 100% burn (even in 24" barrel) so wasn't the best in my moderator.

It's the old story, 'one mans meat'. But this is what I've found. N160 fills the case nicely. I am not a fan of big air spaces, which is what can happen with lighter loads of a faster burning powder

I'm planning on using N160 simply coz I have some already. It will be going down the barrel of a rem 700 (1 in 9.25 twist I believe). I'm encouraged by the fact that it's what some of you already use. Just need a few hours to put some rounds together, a nice still day for some testing and a chronograph now!!!!
I am using 160 in the 243 with 95s at the moment for a 1-9 twist.
160 will not burn 100% in a 243, but it works. 150 will burn completely.
160 gives me better accuracy than 150 Varget or RL15.
Some reloading data is a little OTT. I remember the VV load data for 223 and 133 using a 52 grain bullet. I was 1 1/2 grains lower than their max when the primers started to depart from the cases.

I would suggest starting around 42-42.5grns of Viht 160 with 100grn bullets.

Have ordered myself up a chrono so as soon as it arrives the science starts ;). Can't wait. Somewhat addictive I reckon!

I have a Sako HB Varminter .243 and use 46gr Vit. N160 with a 87gr V.Max. bullet and Rem. 9.5 Primers in RP brass. [Better than half-inch groups at 100 yds.]
This I use for vermin, perhaps with a 85gr SP it would be OK for Deer but I have not tried it as I use a .270 for all Deer species.
