..........65 grain V-max in a 243?

Thinking about trying them for a foxing round, they should be flat, fast and hard hitting.

Not in a .243 but in a 6mmBR, devastating and super accurate, loaded for a velocity of only 3050fps with .015" of jump they shoot in the .3s and have dropped every fox on the spot i have shot with them.
The extra bit of umph you will get from the .243 should really make them sing.

The V-Max in 243 works well with VV150, Varget or the best I have tried was RL 15. The RL15 gave the most accurate results and seems to generate a slightly softer recoil.
I stopped using the 65 load when RL15 was not available last year. I have started again as RL15 is back on the shelves.
The load was:
45 RL15 BR2 Primer and loaded 10 thou" off the lands (same load for Varget)
45.5 VV150 Fed 10M primer at same OAL.

RL15 gave about 3560 fps
VV150 gave about 3500
No data for Varget:confused:

Either of these powders worked very well overall and they make a hell of a splash when the hit.

I still use the 70 Grain Nosler BTs as they generate the best groups in any 243 I have used with a standard twist. My 1-9 does not like them though.

Do the heavier rounds not fly just as flat because of the their better BC? Have you compared the 65 to the 80s, for example...?
And if you look at 87gr Vmax, for example - their BC is .4 !

Just athought, Richard :)

I used 65V Max for a while and they where very good but I swapped to 55gr Noslers and these are just awesome, foxy just gets minced with these. I have had a few runners with the heavier 6mm bullets as they seemed to pass through unless the contacted bone but the 55`s doing about 4000 fps just explode. Very humane for the fox. They are very flat out to 300 with very little hold over out to 400.

Give some a try.
