Do you need any kind of licence to buy the propellants or primers for reloading:confused:

No for powders but most RFD's if they don't know you will want to see your cert. You should take your cert if buying primers.

Definitely financially viable at @ 30p a round for .223 or .243. It's the initial outlay that hurts but soon pays for itself. Also you work up a load that suits your rifle and then there's the satisfaction of rolling your own.

FAC or SGC needed for primers. Explosives certificate, POMSTER and suitable storage magazine required for black power. No legal requirement for smokeless powders and BP substitutes, but what legitimate reason would you have for buying them if you don't have an FAC/SGC ??? Hence the reluctance of most dealers to sell without.
Why the question ?

I do have a SGC and have just bought a toy that is dear to shoot (410) thinking that loading my own may be the way to go once I get a bit more info on making the tooling I need for rolled turnovers etc.
Cheers

I think your SGC is all you need to show for primers and smokeless powder.
For .410 it might be easier to use brass cases. They last forever, easy to reload with almost no tooling except deprime pin and e.g. Lee autoprime, just insert powder, wad, shot, overshot card than fix with a few dabs of hot melt glue.
Buy the cases from e.g. http://www.midwayuk.com/apps/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?SaleItemID=151679 or use .444 Marlin, or .303 British and blow them out with a fireforming load.
