HI all, ill do my best on this one, and im afraid i dont know how to post pics so will do my best to describe things.

I got this rifle from the airgun centre last monday. I wanted the 177 and they had one on the shelf. While im not a big fan of the shop they do offer a lifetime service and fault fix, so that is worth its weight! Well i was looking for a 177 rifle to replace two, an ev2 and a daystate x2. One i used for ft (but never did) the other for hft. I have recently joined m.a.d. and found HFT and how much i enjoyed this, so i decided to sell both and get one to do both jobs! I narrowed it down to two, the daystate mk4, and the ttr1. I opted for the ttr1 for many reasons as i shall list, but also because the theoban has been out and is proven by many to be one of the best.

I wanted a rifle to have long range accuracy, high shot count, as i spend hours on the plinking range, and was constantly topping up both ev2 and the daystate, regulated, cos i like to know there is no power curve, and different, cos i like to be different! :D

1) THE STOCK:

This is made of a high impact resin?, and is extreamly grippy, and does not reflect light what so ever. The forend has a swell where the buddy bottle sits, and also contains an underside rail, which to me was a major point as i would like in the future to obtain a hampster for use in F.T.
Attached to the rail is a moveable qd stud, a nice touch as these are normaly extras, and will look to fit a sling or maybe a bipod in the future. The rail is about 5in and again in black. The action sits high in the stock, and very tight too. The trigger gaurd is a very thick, and solid affair and is molded in the stock, with an angled shape, and has good access to the trigger, and safety within the gaurd. The grip is very comfy with a decent swell and a stop at the end, but i do think the trigger is a reach for smaller hands. Above the pistol grip, and this is more like a pistol grip, there is a thumb rest for the thumb up shot, which i prefer, so this can be shot both ways. This all blends well into the butt, which has an ajustable cheek piece fo height, and side to side movement, which of course lines your head up perfect woth any scope. It also has a rubber, and ajustable butt pad, and a qd stud fitted underneath. The stock in my veiw is exellent, being comfy in sitting, standing, prone, and F.T. style, due to the flat base of the forend. This has all the elements of a target rifle, and a sporter in one package! Reason A for my choice of this gun.

2) THE ACTION:

This, as is all of the rifle finished in a very dull, non reflective blueing, and the reciver, and barrel offer no reflection in sunlight, which is i guess the best thing for a hunter (appart from realtree) and the action looks chunky, strong, and i would describe it as not ellegant, but purposfull, with a feeling of this will not let you down sort of thing. (Reson b for my choice!) THe rifle can be fired as a single shot or 17 shot with the mag. I found the mag exellent, and easy to work with, load, and i like the idea that the shots are numbered, and the bolt will not let you cycle after the 17th shot. To me this is a fantastic mag system, as i had much trouble with the daystate mag. The mag itself looks strong, and you can see your loaded pellets in the mag itself. 10/10 for this! If you shoot single shot, there is a deep recess on the right hand side of the action making thuming in a pellet direct into the barrel easy as chips, which was just like the ev2. So for HFT it scores high in that department.

With mag or single shot, the bolt has a positive pull, and clunck when engaged, and sounds again very heavy duty, much like a rimfire sound rather than the bolts i have before on other air rifles. I like the idea that the bolt has a notch to hold it in place while you load, somthing that was a pain before as i always had to hold other rifles up, or level to stop bolt moving forward. When shooting with the mag, it can be emptyed as quick as you can cycle the bolt.

On top of the action sits the fitted mounts, which i had 25mm, but 30mm can be requested at time of order, which i would have, but bought this off the shelf in the shop, (7week wait for these guns). I mounted a TAsco target 6-24 ir mill dot, and for the money £100 this is a fantastic scope, being able to see targets in the darkest spots, where scope twice as much had trouble!!

The barrel, is quite thick, and i think 16inches (without silencer) and is free floating, and is a walther match grade barrel. Again this has no shine what so ever, but the blueing? is deep and does not look grey. The silencer is an evo2 (i think). It is long! about 9inches, but my god, you cant hear a thing when shot, only the hiss of the pellet travelling down the range, which i love!

Under the barrel is the buddy bottle, from which you get 220 regged shots from, (reason c for buying!)

To sum up the action, it is strong, positive, the mag or single shot is a breeze to use (in the dark it may be different!) blueing dull, but black, and silener amazing! even my girl said blimmey thats quite!

THE TRIGGER;

The trigger blade is long, broad and has a slight curve to it. It is a two stage unit, that has a very postive stop before the 2nd stage, which is great, as you take up the first stage during aim, and then the let off is vey light, as light if not more so than the ev2, but as said there is a clear stop before the 2nd stage. It can be ajusted, but this comes from theoban, but i am happy with the way it feels and weight of pull, and the fact that you can sqeeze the trigger, and it feels like you are doing so! Within the trigger gaurd is the safty. I love this as its not an auto unit, and can be switched on or off with the trigger finger, and it is also two stage, with a first stage light on/off or a 2nd longer push to reset for a more permenant safe position, but again can be set to switch off by the trigger finger, and take the shot. I like this system as i always forget to take off an auto safe and go to take the shot, and nothing!! 10/10 for this, but i guess many may prefer the auto system.

SHOOTING WITH THE TTR1;

The rifle as said is very comfy to shoot, and although it is a long beast, it balances well, and feels solid in the hands. When you cock it, then fire all you hear is the dull thud of the hammer, with no twang what so ever, and no crack at all, in fact if you listen close, you can hear the pellet hissing as it travells down range! If you are prone or whatever and using the mag, cycling the bolt is fast and positive. I would love to add a bi pod soon to get the best out of her, as i love long range shots! As i use this for HFT i have a 25 yard zero, and at this range it does one hole groups, and out to 45 yards, it did 10 shot group of 5p size, and the same was said out to fifty yards. I ran out of space in PETES FARM indoor range to go further, but from what i can see it is every bit as accurate as my ev2. At the plinking range of M.A.D. on a fairly calm day it was wacking the knock up and downs at 55yards no problem at all! :) I was using aa 4.52's for this, but am going to put through my favs crossman prem's 7.9 tonight to see how she flys with them, but for me, the accuracy is spot on, as is the feel and sheer practical ness of the gun. Over the chrono with the aa's, it was doing 790 fps with 6 feet give or take over 10 shots, which to me is cool! I suspect with prems it will be about 810 fps or so. When i phoned theoban for info, gave the serial number, they had it chronod at 11.5 ft pounds. Another nice touch is that i called them and they had the info of the very rifle, as they are all tested and hand checked before dispatch.

TO SUM UP:

This for me was the right choice. It has the stock of a target rifle and the accuracy, but the ease of use os a sporter. The build and finish are first rate, and the cycling and feel positive, and strong. It has amazing sniper rifle stying, and looks awsome in the all black dull finish. It is sleek, but chunky where it needs to be.

PRO's;

FEEL OF STOCK
AJUSTABLE STOCK
NO NEED TO DRY FIRE TO REMOVE BUDDY BOTTLE
REGGED
220 SHOTS PER CHARGE
FANTASTIC MAG
EASE OF SINGLE SHOT THUMBING
GREAT POSITIVE BOLT ACTION
SILENT
DEADLY ACCURATE
HAND BUILT AND FINISHED
GREAT TRIGGER AND SAFETY

CONS;
EXPENSIVE (£895) WITH AIRGUN CENTRE SERVICE FOR LIFE AS STANDARD
QUITE LONG, NO PROBLEM AS IM NOT A HUNTER, BUT MAYBE FOR A HUNTER

IF you would like to know anything about the gun, feel free to ask, and i hope you have enjoyed reading my first review of this magic gun, and sorry for no pics, or any spelling mistake!

I put prems through the gun, and after about 5 mins shooting, the group at 50 yards really opened up :confused: I got it home and did a pull through. The dirt that came out was unreal! After a good clean , i went back and was doing 55 yard one holers (bench rested and indoor) with AA feild! I was sitting there shooting the gun and i could not belive the accuracy of it! My dive bottle is low, so only was charging to 120, but being regg'd this was fine for about 50 shots. Once again, im here singing the praises of this great rifle, and very happy with the top f.t. gun accuracy available to me. Its just what i wanted for HFT! :D So if anyone gets one, dont use prems!
