Hi,

I have not updated my website for a little while.

But my new Daystate deserved a little review. :D

Find it under Airguns on my website here :- http://www.cones-stuff.co.uk/

Thanks

Mark

Great review, gorgeous pics, brilliant looking rifle! I wonder, have your impressions changed at all now that you've had it for a while? Also, I'm tempted by the thought of an FAC version of the gand prix... DO you know if its possible to order the grnd prix with the longer air cylinder? And if so, would a longer air cylinder interfere with that compensatior muzzle attachment thingy??? Possibly prevent the use of said attachment???

Thanks,

Scott in CO

As Scott said=> great photos on your site and nice reveiw. Nice to see someone with a new rifle worth that much being happy to remove bits and bobs to share pics with others.
Keep us informed about your findings as you explore the G.P more.
Mand, green with envy
(would swmbo cotton on if one just turned up in the house?)

Hi Scott,

The Grand Prix gets better the more I use it. :D

No chance with the longer cylinder I'm afraid as the filler cap only just has enough clearance at the moment.

The muzzle attachment in integral to the barrel and shroud as far as I can tell. It contains the chronograph sensors so position is pretty critical.

Unlike previous models there are no grub screws on show to remove the muzzle attachment from the barrel. I am not sure how it is attached? You would need to be careful of the very fine wires running to the sensor.

I'll let someone else be brave enough to dismantle one first I think. :D
Or more likely I'll find out the correct method first if and when there is a need to do so.

Thanks

Mark

Thanks for the response, Mark! Good info to have. I suppose the only hope then is that Daystate could build one specificly with the longer cylinder in mind... Sounds like a long shot... especially for a customer in the US... Probably best, as I can't afford the grand prix anyway!:o

I held one at Shepreth on Sunday - drool! Heavy but great balance for me on standers. It really is an amazing stock. It was running at 780 fps according to the LCD - IIRC.

If I have a good year might give the next version of it a go in 2009;)

Didn't realise that was you Rog, I had the TX200 in the van. As far as the GP is concerned, I'm very pleased with it now.
Initially there was a problem with consistancy, Daystate soon remedied this by replacing the hammer solenoid. I've used it twice in competition, both times at Shepreth and both times scoring 55, which people who know me will tell you is a significant improvement on my usual scores. Yes it is heavy and with the EB Sniper on board probably tips the scales at well over 13 pounds but this is not the problem it would seem as the balance is so good. The stock fits me well and didn't need much adjustment from how I received it. The only other similar rifle I've owned was a Mk1 AirArms EV2, which for me was nowhere near as comfortable to shoot as the GP.

Scott if you want an electronic Daystate running at FAC power levels you need the Air Wolf. Whether you like the buddy bottle or not you clearly need the larger air capacity that is offered by this storage system rather than a cylinder.

@ Rapid

I have heard that if you get an FAC Airwolf it should only be in .22????

Sorry Nick, I disagree with that. There may be more shots to be had with the Wolf but I don't think you need one to go FAC. My Mk3 Sport gives me 40 shots per charge at 30fpe and to be honest there is still no major POI change at 50 shots, which is what the 'beep' reminder is set at. AFAIK, the new Mk4 gives even more shots per charge at 30fpe.

I agree it's nice to have the luxury of more shots, especially for a thorough pellet/trajectory test but I'd much rather have the weight, balance and looks of the Mk3/Mk4, with a few less shots per charge. I can't remember ever needing 40 shots for a days hunting anyway, and that's including the obligatory 'check zero' shots at the start.

Fair enough Paul. I'm sure your Mk 3 is lovely and you are right about shot count. However, I like plenty of shots and am used to the handling of a buddy bottle-powered rifle. I suppose it comes down to familiarity.

Yup. And it'd be a boring old world if we all liked the same stuff, there'd be nowt to argue the toss over!;):D
