Hello All,

I recently did a deal for a Venom Viper two shot in exchange for my BSA Ultra multi shot. Last night I had my first outing with the Venom and my Paladin 390 NV scope. The zeroing of the scope was quiet quickly acheived and only took around five minutes before I was putting pellet on pellet.

My first thought was the weight and balance of it. The NV scope added considerable weight to the outfit and I wouldn't want to have to carry about for any length of time, having said that the gun itself is well balanced.
The walnut stock enhances the guns appearance and the metalwork is well finished and evenly covered.

I felt the built in silencer which is an integral part of the barrel shroud left a bit to be desired. Although it makes the rifle look sleek it isn't as quiet as I would like and could do with more baffling.

The two shot shuttle loading system was easy to use although a bit fiddly in the dark until I'd used it a few times. My choice of pellets were the AA Fields in 5.52 size which I'd already been using in the Ultra and were the ones the previous owner had also used in the Venom. On one occasion I did load two pellets into the left hand chamber after having a shot which as you would expect caused the shuttle not to operate correctly. The shuttle itself did however perform flawlessly other than on that occasion.

The bolt action cocking and loading was smooth and came to hand quite easily. I was pleased to find that I could load the second pellet with ease without the need to remove my eye from the scope, although the second shot was never needed in haste.

Overall I found the Venom Viper to be a good and comfortable rifle to use with the power to do the job. The accuracy and reliability are as I would have expected from what is a well constructed and well engineered rifle and as it's based on the Webley Raider I would also expect the Raider to have almost the same or very similar characteristics. Well worth spending your readies on and a rifle I would recommend for hunting without hesitation.

Good review bud, the Vipers are underated rifles in my opinion.

very and the 2nd shot is the best multi or back up shot system i have ever used.
i think people just dont know about these rifles.
one things for sure these will be collectors in the future, one of the top tuning companys and they are no longer made, kind of regret doing the deal as i know the rifles special but hey things come and go but doubt many will be able to own one of these soon.

Hey up Andy,

Thanks for that mate. I've not used one before last night but have used a Webley Raider belonging to my mate and I was impressed with it as well. I agree they are under rated I think it's an excellent piece of kit personally. I've used a lot of different springers in my time but since getting into pcp's so far I've only owned 3 of them. All the ones I have used were good guns but unless I'm happy with their use and build I'll swap or sell until I find one suitable for my purposes which I am totally happy with.

The Venom Viper could satisfy that criteria but only time will tell. I had the Ultra for 9 months and before that a Titan Mohawk sidelever, both excellent guns but each had little faults which were down to me which I was not happy with so a change is as good as a rest as the saying goes.

Hey up Martin,

How's the Ultra going? have you shot it yet? Like I said when we did the deal the gun is a good one but not for me. I ain't spending 20 - 30 minutes waiting for rats and then missing chances cos I'm an old git :D:D

I have the Raider 10. It's a fine gun and I would not sell it for anything. I can only imagine that a Venom one would be Brilliant.
I'm sure it will prove to be a great buy

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Venom Viper and a standard Raider?

I've got a Raider 2-Shot (my first PCP) and have to say I'm very pleased with it. The only thing I'd fault it on is the annoying twang/ping it makes......purely because it sounds daft, doesn't seem to bother the squirrels!!

Hopefully sorting that this week though as I've got a de-twanger on the way.:D

Any one got any Raider/Viper bits for sale?:D

Hello Sniperwolf,

Well I'm no expert as I've only just got my Venom Viper but from what I can gather, the internals were worked on, don't ask me which parts I've no idea. The stock was Walnut and the barrel was shrouded with an integral silencer. The trigger is gold plated or at least gold colour plated. I've no idea what else was done to them but they were worked on by Webley Venom Custom shop which I believe was part of the Webley factory at the time.

My first PCP was a Venom Viper, I sold it after two years after I got it, as I had gone FAC and still to this day wish I had kept hold of it. Only snag, right on que, when I did sell it, the very next day my fridge freezer bust and needed replacing, so each time I go to it the reminder is there..............:(

I would love to get the very same one back as it was a dream to shoot and really well balanced as mentioned above, although I never had any troubles with the twin shot shuttle..............

I have a viper too. A .22 12Ftp. Does about 80 good shots.
Indeed nice rifles.
Allthough can't understand the idea of a 2shot though..It's more hassle than functional. I prefer 5/10 or something shots or singleshot.
At 25m it shoots 9mm edge-to-edge ragged holes with ease with AA/JSB.
The left chamber is indexed on feel so that can be a little tougher to load.
Seals are a sensitive point, bút easily changed.
Coverplate bolts can work loose too.
Also, lots of play in the triggermech. Easy to solve, but annoying. Trigger itself is light and crisp.
I pimped mine a bit, with goldplated trigger and bolt, fill cover and a brass C.A.T.S mzzlebrake. Looks great now!
Blueing is immaculate, as expected from uk webley.
Their balance is very good due to the shroud.
An extra silencer can be fitted to make it ultra quiet.
I'm a springerfan really, but I keep it for now cause I like it's looks..:D

Biggest differences with the Raider: internals worked on, it was lightened in weight, and the shroud.

Hey up Martin,

It's killing rats a treat with a little help from me of course :D I love it. I'm on with trying to get the inbuilt silencer quieter though and I've a project beech stock I'm working on for it, the walnut one will be spare one then. The project stock is in the early stages at the moment just an idea.
