Just a quick few lines on this rifle I know that there are not many of these out so here goes.
Visually its a nice looking traditional styled rifle. The wood work is extremely well finished, the bluing is acceptable, it weighs in at around 7lbs unscoped.
The open sights fitted are of a plastic rear block with fibre optic blade with quite coarse adjustment in both plains The front sight is shrouded red fibre optic and is partof a plastic sleave about 8" long which doubles as a cocking aid. I could'nt get on with the fibre optic and struggled to get a 2 " group at 15 metres. It could be my 55 yr old eyes though. They have been consigned to the box and for the present a cheapo scope fitted which has corrected the grouping problem.
Powerwise using 8.3gr RWS Superdomes it chrono'd at just under 10 ft lbs. Accurate up to 30 metres but stretching credibilially beyond.
It has succsefully dealt with feral pigeon and Rats sub 20 metres, I would not at this stage consider it for rabbit. It is still 'running in' having only had 300 pellets through it and some work with different pellet combination may improve its performance.
I directley compared it to the xs19 and it was head and shoulders above in finish and in looks.
My intention is to keep it twelve months or so and then may be move onto better ( more expensive) air rifles.
For £125 I accept it for what it is and is probably a better buy than some of the secondhand guns in that price range and certainley better than some of the new 'chinese' guns that are out. Its worth looking at.

Just A few of points I missed and are worth pointing out.
The Safey sets automatic when cocking the rifle It can be turned on and off manualy by the big thumb button on the rear of the cylinder.
The cocking is very smooth and the sear engages with a pleasing click, pulling the trigger is smooth if somewhat firm rather than heavy, it is a two stage adjustable, but till it has a few thousand rounds through it I'm leaving well alone.
Its definately growing on me.

I'll sort some pictures out over the next day or so. If you get any of the air gun comics Berreta have a full page advert in them.
The trigger is a 2 stage adjustable, pressed steel. I would describe it as firm rather than heavy. It requires a steady pull. I've not messed with the adjustment as its not had many rounds through it. so I'll see if it lightens up any after a 1000 rounds or so.
It does have a full length / conventional barrel which may make it a bit unwieldy for a 10 yr old. Its certainely lighter than smk xs 19.
It may be best if your lad got to handle a rifle in the shop rather than just suprising him with one. But put the Beretta on the list.

It must be this old phart being thick, but I can't upload pictures to the forum. My user CP does not have the Album / Pictures Link. If I click the insert image icon in reply to thread it asks me for a web address. Anyone any Ideas?

You can't directly upload pictures into your posts.
You need to sign up for an account with one of the free photo hosting sites like Photobucket, Flikr, ImageShack etc.
Then having uploaded your pictures there, just insert links to them in your post.

Mine came from Fawcetts of Lancaster. There is a web site
"]www.stoegerairguns.com.[/URL] That may list dealers.
Just checked that site it only lists the products. The UK importer is www.gmk.co.uk who have a dealer search facility.

My son has had 2 and they have both had to go back, the first one after a month started making funny noises inside, sounded like a spring sliding up and down, my dealer Henry Krank of Pudsey, changed it for a new one, which after 2 weeks he gave us a refund on because the gun just didnt sound right.
we then upgraded to a weibrach which was worth the extra.
They have now stopped selling them and has told us they wont be getting anymore.

That's quite a nice looking gun. Saw them in AGW the other month in an advert thought the synthetic one (X20??) Looked rather nice too.
Any chance of some closer pictures of how the barrel locks up etc?
Do you think it would stand up to being a bit of a workhorse?

I'll get some pictures of the breech area closed and open.
It locks up tight and takes a fair tap to open it and a firm pull to cock it.
Its been bought as my work horse, I'm hoping to do a bit of hunting and some HFT and range work so its got to be an allrounder, it would be nice to have a rifle for each discipline but thats not going to happen anytime in the near future. The indications are ( with 400 rounds through it so far) are good the power is creeping up as it beds in.
Sad (and annoying) that Andyandchris has had trouble with one lets hope it was just a bad example or two, but touch wood no probs so far!:)

The breach catch is a double wedge, the spring loaded wedge in the barrel locks up against the fixed wedge in the cyclinder end with a constant pressure that ensures it always fully closes. As said previous it takes a smart tap on the end of the barrel to open the breach prior to cockng.

Just to let you all know, Livens in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs also have these rifles in.
A friend of mine has just bought the X20 in .22 & i have had a few shots with it. My own collection consists of nothing but air arms & wiehrauch guns, but i am certainly impressed with the stoeger & i think that for the money it has got to be the best gun out there.

Just to reinforce the above I'm still well chuffed with mine its had a tin of RWS superdomes through it and is remaining steady at 10 ft/lb over the chrono. As for accuracy I've managed reasonable results with that awfull 4 x 40 smk scope,:((if the cross hairs were in focus then the image was blurred or if the image was in focus then the cross hairs were blurred and unusable). However I've just obtained a seconhand Hawke Airmax 2-7 x 32 with a MAP 6 reticule. With adjustable px, spent the evening turning up an arrestor pin for the 1 piece mounts and fitting it to the rifle, trouble is it was dark by the time I finished so not managed to try it or zero it yet but its got to be an improvement over the 4x40. Looking forward to tomorrow fog or not!:)
