if he was using a 400gr bullet barrat reckon on 3250 ft/s yah it will need a FAC
fps x fps x gr divided 450240 =ft/lbs

That's not a problem if you're shooting at the proper distance for the calibre.
I'm not sure why bobbyb said he was shooting at long range. If it actually was a .50cal, then the proper distance is about 1500yards. At the range a .50BMG round carries as much kinetic energy as a .44magnum at point blank and will easily kill.
The hundred metres or so that he was shooting at was very close range - like shooting a steel plate with an air rifle at 3 yards.

.... I take it you are referring to the popular or forensic meaning of the term point blank, i.e. very close to the end of the barrel, and not the ballistic meaning, i.e. the distance in which you do not have to alter the elevation for the weapon to ensure it strikes the given target?
