THIS IS My FIRST REVIEW
And Is only my opoinion
This gun is NOT a factory .25 .it started its life as a .177 model and I have converted it to .25 all parts from Daystate ,with a view to going Fac .
The gun is fitted with the 500cc cylinder giving it a massive shot count at 12 ftlb " only filled it once since i bought it ".This makes the rifle slightly front heavy but being of a larger build I dont find this a problem.
STOCK
The stock Is a wallnut ambi thumbhole ,comfortable but would be better with a adjustable butt plate .
TRIGGER
light crisp release and IMO feels better than the elecrtonic swtch fitted to other models "I had a Mk 3 and it worked well but had very little feel"
MAGAZINE
I can only compare this with the others I have used hw100 and theoben rapids i would say it is on par with the rapid mag for operation but no where near as good as the hw100 it feels rough when used but is better in.25 than .177 .At £45 it should work better than it does
ACTION
It has the same reg as the mk3 daystate this works and very well. Daystate said the reg presure is set differenly for each calliber and would need to be set up for the .25 barrel swap.when fitted it was over powered but was easily detuned and only has a variation of 5 fps on all the shots i have fired .I have taken out the hammer and damper and polished both.
WAS THE CONVERSION WORTHWHILE ??
At the moment I am pleased with it .
on the range today 10mtr pellet on pellet 15mtr the same 20mtr and hole was going raggy and 25 it wil clover leaf .I tried at 35 and 40 and 50 .35 needs 4 mill dots 40 and your just in the scope just and 50 who knows where they were going.
So If you keep it within 30 mtrs and want to hit VERY HARD this will do the job .YOU have just got to stick to your own and its limitations .
Hope you find this informative.
Thanks Mick

I forgot to say pellets used in test were h&n field target trophy 20.10 grn .I tried barracuda but at 12ftlb they are way too heavy to use at 30.50 grn

Nice review there Mick - and well done with the conversion pal - I am sure when you get it on ticket it will be a cracking gun - especially with the adjustable power you have ;):D

As some of you know I am of the view that .25 at legal limit has very limited use. Short range squirrels being perhaps the most obvious example of where .25 would be better but against that for the vast majority of other uses it can be like lobbing bricks. At FAC it is excellent and I was interested to note that Mick intends to have the rifle uprated in due course.
Could I ask one question please? In legal limit what advantage does the .25 offer over .22 where the ammo is cheaper and easier to obtain?

I suppose greater "thwack" at closer ranges. John Bezzant in Air Gunner is a great exponent of .25 legal limit lightning.

Hello after many years of shooting .22 I had ago at Ft and HFT and became a .177 convert .Over the last year I have gone back to vermin shooting .I am not saying that .177 is not as good as a larger callibre but even with a clean nead shot they SOMETIMES dont go down as instantly as my old .22.
After reading about Verminhunters .25 rapid I wanted to try something with some real oommpphh .At the moment I am shooting 19.3 grn mosquitos and up to 25 yrd they are very impresive .I will post the field results when I go to may shoot tomorrow .

1st field test today and got 3 magpies
the 1st at 15 yrd head shot
2nd 17 yrd head shot
and the 3rd was at 25yrd I slghtly misranged this shot and the shot hit at the top of the chest the bird was bowled over no flapping or anything.
The air ranger in .25 at 25yards or less is one very hard hiting rifle .In FAC it must be awesome .

Good results there Mick, equally impressive is your ability to get that close to the maggies!

Hi Si cheers mate the first was the hardest to get and that might have just been luck but when I had the 1st bird I put it in the open on its back and all his mates came in for a look what he was doing upsidedown "bad move" .I had found a top hide under the trailer of a truck i could sit with my back on the rear tyre and rest the gun on the back axle totally out of sight of the maggies.:D
ps good to here you are getting on with the HW .

hi mick , i use a springer bsa lightning .25 and that knocks rats and tree rats dead flat no runners with this gun , an under rated calibre .25, i am waiting for a fac variation to come through then i have a .25 28fpe webly patriot on the way, nice gun the air ranger and like .20 , ,25 calibre is good fun.

Brian dont go for the patriot , its a very harsh rifle , your better off with an eliminator in .25. But to tell you the truth if I got my .25 in FAC then i'd go for the rapid mk2 in .25., you'll be shocked at the knock down energy and accuracy in 50ftlb, but if you arnt in the market for a pcp and want a springer/gas-ram then go for the eliminator its a far more refined and excellent rifle with dampa mounts already fitted , the patriot has no dampa mounts and you'll be smashing scopes very quickly, also they have afew problems with the trigger and seals.

Hi guys !
This will be my first post on this forum, but I have been reading quite a lot.. ;)
I am from Norway and we do not have any limitations on power. What would would be your preffered choice of caliber airgun if you could choose on a FAC Air Ranger .22 or .25 ?

I am not sure, but I am leaning towards .22. I have a FAC Webley Raider 10 and I like to shoot at long ranges (60m+). I am not a very good shooter, but can plink a coca cola can at 70-80m if the wind is not too bad, and be lucky at 100..
I am kind of looking for power in a new rifle more then pinpoint accuracy, but also more shots per fill. In a FAC this is important. My Raider gives me approx 25 good shots per fill in cal .22. I can see the Air Ranger in FAC .25 gives approx the same amount on a 500cc fill...:(

Hello and welcome :)

mick
Thanks ! :)
My Raider is doing approx 240-250 ms (750 fps ?) with 18g pellets. It is quite powerful and much stronger than my FAC Webley Tomahawk. Still very quiet. I also love how quick the 10 pellet magazine is to load. A box with 200 pellets is a quick session..

Hunting with airguns is prohibited in Norway. Strange to think it that it is legal in England, but that the power is reduced compared to our air rifles...:o

the price to go FAC power is over £200 on top of the price of the barrel £164 .and the cost of the gun its just cheaper to get somethis that is fac to start with .
Cheers mick
