Hi all,
i bought my Scorpion a few weeks ago, after selling my .22 falcon fn12rs, mainly to be used for hunting and at the club plinking/practising also briefly owning an fx typhoon that was a pain in the arse, so i swapped it for a scorpion......thank god i did! After 3 tins of pellets, here's a few thoughts on my new gun,
First impressions are good, lovely rifle, a dvd and a paper manual, tools, grease all included, unlike the fx which just had a A4 sheet with it! qd studs included is great idea, with the packing grease removed, the blueing is good, the orange stock is a little bright on the eye but will dull with use and dirt! ;) chequering is good too.
first thing i notice is the handling, beautifuly balanced, very pointable, added a hw silencer and a jsr 4-16x44 scope on high mounts. bit of a problem here because the cheek piece isnt really high enough so you have to lift your head off, which i'm not keen on, so i sold the 4-16x44 and replaced it with a jsr 3-9x40 ao ir, great budget scope and sits on medium mounts fine although i had to change the flip ups cos they touched the barrel!
the scorpion is so easy to charge, remove cover, plug it in and thats it, keep the o rings moist with grease, bsa say fill to 200 bar for 50 shots, dont bother with that, fill to 180 bar and you still get 50 good shots at 11.7ft lbs with rws superdomes.
shooting bit now!
In my case, this is the most accurate rifle i have used to date! the bolt feels solid, well made and smooth. loading is as good as loading a .177 pellet with fat hands is ever going to be! ;) it took me 10 shots to zero and another 5 shots for a check grouping. the last 5 were in a ragged 1 hole group at 30 yds 12mm in diameter. :D the jsr scope helped too, i use 8x for most stuff but 6x for stalking. the hw silencer really keeps it quiet too. the trigger could be a tad lighter but is good for when you've got gloves on. the safety is ok, bit of an odd place but i'll rarely use it, you can also de-cock it by pulling the bolt back and squeezing the trigger and slowly returning the bolt, remembering you could be loaded still!
pellet wise i've tried, rws superpoints n superdomes, accupells, jsb exacts and aa fields, mine loves superdomes, yours may differ. all had good results really and none will let you down. got a good sling for it and going to add a bipod to it in the near future and maybe a cammo paint job for the stock. cant wait to take it out in the field! :D
