Hello All,
I recently got a Logun S16 in .22 calibre off the forum and have been out to check it out, these are my first impressions.
Upon opening the purpose built case I was faced with something that looked like a prop for Star Wars. The gun itself overall looked extremely robust and felt heavy and solid.
The first thing I wasn't impressed with were the dimensions of the case, it's very compact and doesn't leave much room to fit everything in comfortably. It does have adequate room to fit the action with a scope and room for the silencer and bottle but the space is very tight. Several pockets adorn the outside for 2 magazines, spare buddy bottle, pellets and the filling adapter.
Assembly:
The silencer was screwed on first, the threads appear to be the standard 1/2 UNF ones. Next came the bottle, I was a bit concerned when the air leaked as I screwed the bottle in but I was assured this was normal. After assembly I checked it for fit and found it actually quite comfortable. The bottle forms the "stock" and has a rubber boot with the "butt pad" attached over it. I topped the gun off with a Simmons 3-9 x 40 scope and one piece mount.
Now the gun was together it was actually quite pleasing to the eye although futuristic in its appearance.
Loading :
Loading the magazine which is a twin 8 shot rotary set up proved to be extremely easy, no springs to fight and 3 holes to fill at a time. Once one side was filled with pellets you simply turned the magazine through the horizontal and filled the other 8 pellets into the other side. To fit the magazine the bolt is half cocked and the magazine slipped into place from underneath the gun until a positive click is heard as it locks into place.
Cocking :
The cocking mechanism proved to need firm handling once the magazine was in place. A good hard pull back all the way to the stop then a positive firm push forward back to the stop at the front and the first pellet was indexed. There is a manual push button safety catch just above the trigger which is designed for right handers, the safe being on when out to the right and off when pushed through to the left. The gun was now ready for my first shot and setting the sights up.
Shooting :
The sighting in took a few shots. I set the target at 25 yards which is the average sort of distance I need for ratting on my mates smallholding. The silencer made the gun whisper quiet and all that could be heard was the click of the hammer. The loading needs to be done firmly but I had no problems with it and no jams on the magazine. I fired only about 48 shots but they were all fired without a fault and once the sights were set up the guns accuracy was very good. The gun placed almost pellet on pellet using AA Fields in 5.52 which of course you would expect at that distance.
Overall I was quite impressed with the build and the performance of the gun, it's a bit too unconventional for my personal taste but I wanted to try one out just to say I'd used one. I think it would be good gun for the vermin shooter but it is rather heavy.
I've read good and bad reviews on the Logun S16 about the leaking and jamming etc only time will tell but on first impressions it was in my opinion a good gun to use.
Regards
