I bought a HW97k initially for a bit of fun after trying out a few springers at our club. I was amazed at how accurate it was, especially as I have not shot a spring gun for about 10 years or more. A 10 shot group at 35 yards could be covered by a fifity pence piece. 55 yard groups fell apart, and were probably 3 inches in diameter.

I had it for 2 months, and started reading about how to tune it. I got quite into this, and frankly a bit carried away. Its now sporting a V-mach trigger, Lazaglide kit and a CS800 stock.

It did not go very smoothly, as the V-mach kit initially put out 13.5 ft/lbs, and had to be sent back to be shortened. The CS800 stock was machined incorrectly twice, and had to be amended. However, I must say that the service of both V-mach and Custom Stocks was excellent.

I've finally got all the bits on and don't regret a thing. The Lazaglide kit's lock time is far quicker, and the recoil lower and distinctly crisper. For me, it has the benefits of a Theoben gas ram, but without the mighty 'thud' that follows when you pull the trigger. The pellet can occasionally be seen flying into the target, such is the reduced level of recoil. Its is currently putting out 11.4 ft/lbs with only +/- 3 fps. This is even more consistent than my EV2 or Dominator!!

The V-mach trigger is a good shape and width. I went for the straight bead blasted one, which has a grippy surface. As you cannot truely adjust the weight of the Reckord trigger, the blade does help reduce the trigger weight by some amount. It also has finer adjustments for the second stage release.

The CS800 stock is, to me, similar to the current Daystate stocks (at least as so far as the palm swell and thumbhole/thumb-up position feels similar to say a Merlin/Mk4). I opted for extended stippling, which although may not be the prettiest, is certainly good to hold. I find this stock a little chunkier and deeper than the standard 97k stock. The cheek comb is also just that little bit higher, which for me is crucial.

All things considered, the rifle is now far more accurate and easier to shoot consistently. Typical 5 shot groups in doors from a bench measure 8 to 12 mm accross. I think it's now as accurate as many PCPs up to 45 yards, but still has the fun of a springer. But then, it all comes at a cost:o. At 55 yards, a 10 shot group can be covered by a fifty pence piece, but this is wich an HFT scope paralaxed in at 25 yards and with the cross hair elevated accordingly. I would just love to know what it could do with a high mag FT scope paralexed in correctly, but, as I don't have a spare scope, I'll not know:(
