This little gem is rated among the most loved airguns in the US (under the Beeman R7 name).
Now...
How come there is so little fuzz about this model on this board or in the British mags..?
Its cheap, amazing accurate, very stylish, fun to shoot and with just enough power to use as a hunter for pest-control.
Low weight and easy to manage - even a better choice then the HW99S.
It also fits fine at a safe level under the legal limit in the UK.
I dont get this - or doesent the Hull carry them..?

Hi Johnny,
The HW30S is also becoming popular over here in Canada. One of our main Weihrauch dealers is almost sold out of his recent shipment of 25 of them.
The newest HW30S version we see is the Junior Field Target model with the Weihraich muzzle break and rear sight plate installed. They come from HW that way. The price is the same as the model with the iron sights. Very reasonable.
According to AirgunsOnly (Canuck dealer) the iron sight model is becoming popular with a few junior 10m leagues. A Williams aperture can be mounted on the rear and the rifle is light enough for youngsters to start on. Accuracy is also wonderful.
The HW30S is available in .177, .20 and .22 caliber models.
My new .177 HW30S easily shoots ragged hole groups at 10 metres. I still have to test it at 20, 30 and 40 yards. Velocity is 620fps with 8.4gr JSB Exact pellets. I have the sights removed and a 3-9X Sportsman scope installed with a one piece Sportsmatch mount. Total weight is only 7.23 pounds (3.3kg).

Hello Todd,
I could guess that you would find this thread...*lol*
Mine have the Beeman R7-tunekit from Maccari and shoots CPL at 630 fps for 7 ft/lbs.
Its favoritepellet is Accupells or CPL and with theise it can shoot within 1.00" at 40 yards with ease, during fieldconditions.
Ive scooped it up with a Leupold 3-9x33 EFR in Simmons OMP and also equiped it with a Universal Beeman muzzle break and a Simmons spiritlevel.
The Junior F/T-model seems to be interesting, Im looking for a rear sight coverplate (not to be found in Sweden) and when I ordered it from Lewis Reinhold (down under) it never arrived - "out of stock").
Now when I know its in production I will try to get it from another (hopefully faster) dealer instead.

Hi Johnny,
You might want to try AirgunsOnly (in Canada) for the sight plate cover. Shipping fees might be nasty but you could get a HW30S piston seal and breech seal added to your order.
AirgunsOnly has e-mail but they are sometimes pretty busy to answer. It's free to try. If you phone, ask for Scott.

When installing a muzzle brake do you put any tape or shim on the barrel first? I have a small Weihrauch brake that I want to use on the HW30S but I don't want to scratch the barrel bluing. It has one set screw on it.
Thanks,
Todd

I use tape for electrical wireings first to adjust the brake then I use the supplied barrelshim to prevent the tape to compress and set the brake incorrect.
I spoke to the largest Swedish HW-dealer today and he promised to try to make a one-off for me and order one with his next HW-delivery.
Now Im sitting here hoping that the rain will be away tomorrow so that I can produce some nice targets..

Our club RIVINGTON RIFLEMEN has nine HW30's (.177) which we use at 'Introduce The Public To Airgunning' days. We find that these rifles are ideally suited to close range (20-25 yards) plinking and can be used by all but he smallest of shooters. Our club members also enjoy using them. ;) Todate the rifles have fired thousands of shots with few, if any, problems.
I personally have just bought a new HW50 (.177) and while it is only slightly heavier than the 30's (3.1kg compared to 2.5kg) its still lighter than the 99S and produces approx. 9ft.lbs m.e. in standard form. The only thing Ive changed is the Perfect trigger unit for a Rekord unit. ;)

Who sells the HW30S in Britain, I have never seen an ad for them in the airgun mags..?

Hull Cartridge Co import them so I think any gunshops who deal with them can order them. We got ours (I think) through Target Sports of Bolton and B.A.R. ;)

p.s. May of London are advertising HW30 in the August issue of Gun Mart.

Are both versions of the HW30 avalible in Britain (the S version and the standard one with Perfect triggerunit)..?

 Dunno. The club rifles are the standard with Perfect trigger units. The HW50 I bought was also a standard. ;)

The HW30S sold here in Scandinavia have always the Rekord triggerunit...

Canuck question....
How come it shoots 620/7FP then without being on FAC/PAL ?
I thought that the limits were 500 fps /5.7FP and it clearly exceeds both ?
Rgds,
JB
PS How much do they sell them for in Canada

A fair guess is that it is tuned above the legal limit - quite common in all airgunning countrys except from Britain.
We have a 10 joule limit here but my Cyclone is giving twice that and more...

I thought that, but then again just having it in .22 at 475/7.2 Fp would be legal ;)

Here are two targets made today, just for Todd.
;)
http://www.cky.se/albums/Tavlor/HW30Stargets.sized.jpg
First target was shot at 35 yards with 5 pellets and the second one was shot at 45 yards with 10 pellets.
I used one target on each distance to adjust the gun before I made the two targets above.
All shots were made sitting outdoors in calm weather with only bodysupport.
The pellets were Accupells at 7,90 grains leaving the muzzle at 630 fps.
Scope was Leupold 3-9x33 EFR set at x9/25Y on the first target and X9/50Y on the last one.
Theise HW30S are very easy to shoot well, Im not a good shooter with springers but this model is almost just as easy to shot as a PCP.

Forgot:
Groupsize is 10 mm at 35 yards and 50 mm at 45 yards (including two flyers).
The black area on the targets is 37 mm and the 9/10-zone is 24 mm.
On a good day, when trying on several targets before, I would say that a good shooter would improve the 45 yard distance down to 35-40 mm groupsize.

BuddyBoy,
The 500fps Canadian limit is if the person does not have a PAL (Canadian FAC). I have one.
The velocity rating applied by the manufacturer is used for determining if the airgun requires a PAL to purchase/possess. Yah, I know...it's a stupid law...
I paid $261 (Cdn dollars) last month for my HW30S.

Hi Johnny,
Wow, you really shoot the HW30S well. Nice groups! Now I have a goal!
I was out shooting my HW30S all afternoon. I shot okay but I know the accuracy would have been better if I had a more steady rest. I was wobbling a bit... that's my excuse.
Here is the info:
Today brought very windy outdoor conditions so my accuracy testing was confined to a 20 yard indoor range. Finally I had time to sit down and shoot pellets all afternoon so I packed the Workmate, short stool, shooting bag, and HW30S.
This was my first attempt at serious benchrest shooting with the HW30S and I learned quite a bit about shooting rests. First I tried a firm rest which I made long ago from wood and a thin 1/4" firm pad. This rest was too firm and groups would shift and flyers were common. I then tried a long rolled up piece of foam but it was too soft. Finally I settled on placing the forestock on my open hand (palm up) while it rested on top of the rolled foam. Using this method gives a very slight amount of wobble, when compared to a hard rest, but accuracy was still decent. It would be best to find a proper density foam that would match the firmness of my open hand (no pulse in foam).
For a rear rest I used a suede rabbit ear sandbag rest. The buttstock was placed in the rabbit ear and a light hand pressure was used on the rifle's grip. After almost 2 hours of experimenting I found this method seemed to produce the tightest groups.
I used a Bushnell Sportsman 3-9X scope with the adjustable objective set to eliminate parallax.
My two favourite dome pellets were tested today, the 7.9 grain Crosman Premier Light (die #5) and the 8.44 grain JSB Exact (4.52mm).
RESULTS - 5 shot groups @20 yards (ctc):
CPL - .27, .32, .43, .43, .32, .41, .33, .48, .41, .40 - AVE = .38"
JSB - .36, .29, .36, .32, .39, .42, .37, .38, .38, .35 - AVE = .36"
The results were pretty much the same for the two pellet types. If I shot 20 more groups the measurements could switch the winner but the results will likely still be very close. Both these pellets are good shooters in this rifle.
I don't know if die #5 is still available in the CPL. Apparently #7 is now current but I have never tried this one. JSBs shoot great so that will be my ammo.
Velocity with CPLs averages 630fps and the Exacts average 620fps.
Thanks again,
Todd

Hi Johnny,
I got around to shooting some 10 metres groups with my HW30S. I used JSB Exacts and a soft pillow under the forestock of the rifle. All groups are 5 shots each.
I will also post the 5 shot groups from 20 yards. Same JSB Exact pellet.

Thats some great shooting, Todd...
I just hope that other shooters open their eyes for this sweet little gun.
I bet you that most shooters would improve their practical accuracy shooting springers if they would change their regular springer to a HW30S...

My HW30S only weighs 7.23 lbs (3.29kg) with a Sportsmatch one piece mount and Bushnell Sportsman 3-9X scope. That's about the same weight as a scoped sporter rimfire rifle.
With a short Weihrauch muzzle break, and scope, the combo weighs 7.38 lbs (3.35kg).
