Its not often I’m compelled to do something like this, but I believe exceptional service should be acknowledged, as we are all fast to flame when we feel we get poor service.
I have a lovely walnut Prosport, that I just have never been able to shoot that well. I always felt that a lot of this has been to do with the reach to the trigger blade being a bad fit for me, resulting in poor trigger control.
I pondered the Rowan TX MPR trigger for a while, and decided I can’t see any reason it shouldn’t fit a Prosport, so took the plunge ordering the brass unit.
The web site was clear and professional looking, and the order process was simple, which I would like to say well done for, as all too many web sites are far to confusing these days.
The trigger arrived promptly in two days, again top service. It was in a reasonably sized jiffy bag, which when opened the trigger was found to be lovingly packed in the centre of a fist sized ball of bubble wrap. The Royal Mails finest were not going to damage this package !
The trigger itself when removed is a thing if beauty. The quality of the machine work is stunning, with lovely sharp edges and not a tool mark to be seen anywhere. Its been crafted with the sort of care and detail that’s very rare to find these days !
Along with the trigger in the package is the two allen keys required to set up, which is a nice touch, and a printed instruction booklet.
The instructions are clear, precise, and include photographs of the process of fitting the trigger. Again, thought, care and attention have gone into creating this manual.
I have stripped CD trigger units before so was not concerned by this side of the fitting, but a complete novice could fit following the supplied instructions. I would say for a novice though trigger adjustments are safety critical, and if you are not confident you should let a gunsmith complete this stage !
The fitting simply involves driving out one pin, switching the trigger, and knocking the pin back in. You do not even need to remove the trigger block to do this.
Adjustment was straight forward, and again the supplied instructions are clear and precise, getting the first stage correct first, and then introducing the second stage. Do not rush this bit, and you must be safety aware at all times !
With the action now together and the trigger correctly adjusted, I then set about setting the reach and position of the blade for what fits me ! Again a simple process, which requires a little bit of trial and error, and that was job done, so on to the important bit.
I think it looks stunning on the rifle, but that’s just my own personal opinion. The important bit is did it make a difference ?
Well, I zeroed the rifle at 35 yards and then settled down to get used to the feel of it.
I feel the break point is clear and predictable, and set nice and light as this is a target only gun. The fact that the reach now fits me correctly seems to have transformed the rifle. The last group I shot when setting up had 5 pellets touching at 35 yards, which is a feat I had never produced with this gun before.
So to summarise, top quality part, well packaged, clear instructions, and transformed the rifle. I would whole heartedly recommend anybody with a TX or PS considers one of these, as for me it appears to have transformed the gun.
