I own both of the above rifles in .22!

Price

Right, Let’s start of with price. I bought my Daystate MK3 RT for £400 Second Hand. It was Left-Handed but I sold the left handed stock and bought a Normal Right-Handed Sporter Stock. I then have to change the bolt to right-handed which will cost roughly £25. So the MK3 cost me about £450!

I bought my Air Arms S410 Brand New. You can get a nice Second Hand one for about £400-£450 with a walnut stock.

So price wise, Very Similar!

Accuracy

Both rifles are very accurate!

Enough Said!

Magazine/Loading

The Daystate MK3 bolt is easier to pull back as there are no moving parts compared to the S410’s. But the S410’s is still easy to load, But sometimes I am not defiantly sure if I have loaded it.

The S410’s Magazine is cheaper to buy at only £26 brand new but the Daystate’s are £41!

Barrel

I personally rather the MK3’s Barrel over the S410’s as it is quite a bit thicker. I find the S410 is quite easy to knock off-zero but with the Daystate MK3 it is going to take a lot stronger knock. I feel a lot more confident with the MK3 in the field as it will take a bit if a knock and I know that I don’t have to check my zero! (I normally do though)

Also the MK3 has a ½ inch thread which is a lot better then the S410 as you don’t have to get an adapter to fit a silencer.

Trigger/Safety

I am sure most of you know that the MK3 is electronic! The only problem with it being electronic is that you need a key to turn it on. It is easy to forget this key and get your shoot and find you can’t shoot. The MK3’s trigger is nice and light.

The S410 has a nice trigger which is nice and easy to adjust. You can buy the MPR Trigger for about £35 which improves the feel of the trigger a lot.

The safety on the MK3 is a just below the scope rail. You can put it on and of with your thumb. The safety on the S410 is possibly the worst safety possible. It is located on the trigger! Why would you put a safety on the trigger?

Consistency/Power

The MK3 is Regulated; I get 175 before the POI starts to drop off. With the S410 I only get 90 shots and there is quite a power curve compared to the MK3.

What I like about the MK3 is that you can adjust the power, which is very handy if you are shooting in barns, etc.

Balance/Weight

The MK3 is quite a bit heavier then the S410. I personally rather a slightly heavier gun but that is personal preference. Both balance nicely.

Overall

So…What is my favourite: It would have to be the Daystate MK3 RT but both are fantastic rifles for the money!

Has to be said a second hand MK3RT is a cracking purchase (especially at the price you paid :) )

It'll do pretty much anything you ask of it - mine is currently set up with a weaver T36 for some Bench Rest shooting. More accurate than I'll ever be :o

Oops bit late responding :o

Yes mate, i sanded the old style magazine down. I originally had a Viper 10x44 mounted with accushot medium mounts. These would not fit originally, but with a little sanding they slid nicely under with minimum clearance.

With the weaver set up i have picked up some reasonable priced used BKL (wouldn't pay full price for them mind - I'm not that wealthy) mounts in silver from the (e)bay.

Now have what looks like a UKNeil (or type) airstripper on it as silence isn't a worry at the moment.

If I stop changing things I might learn how to shoot it one day :o:p:D

Thirded! Both in .177 and even with the BTAS reg on the 410, the Mk3 is the better gun, 155 shots vs about 140.
Generally a higher quality of finish, at 40 metres mine is more accurate (7mm cc 5 shot groups vs. 16mm) and a LOT quieter. I can use the Mk3 without any additional moderation, the AA's needs 7inches of moderator to get to a comparable level.
Trigger is great, all the functionality of the electronics and as a leftie the ability to load from either side of the breech and indeed change which side to insert the magazine from are welcome options.
Only areas in which AA's has an edge are weight, the Mk3 comes in at 9lbs 3 1/2ozs unscoped the AA's at 7lbs (Classic), I find the DS heavy but the AA's too light, and I prefer the sporter stock on the AA's to the thumbhole on Mk3.
DS have addressed the last two points with the Mk4S, good stock and weighs 7lbs 15 1/2ozs.
Both nice guns, but the Mk3 gets used all the time.

Get one thats much better built than the other and regulated.
Both will hit their targets if used correctly.

Its all about the money and the gizmos

I love me X2R, nearly a MK3 (ish):D

Does the MK3 really weigh over 9lbs unscoped.....I thought it was around 8lbs?

I was very interested in buying one but if you're correct about the weight I've just lost interest!

Ken

I p/xed a Mk3 for my Mk4S and was supprised with the difference in weight & the improvment in the ballance.

I have an S400 too and it's as accurate as the Mk3 & Mk4 but doesn't feel like it has the build quality and sturdiness of the Datstates.

I like to shoot them both though :)

I started a thread with regard to gun weights, it seems that the manufacturers aren't always, say will say accurate with the numbers.

Clearly you have to appreciate that there are different variants etc, but I've yet to find a gun that is as the book figures say, and they're not lighter!

My Mk3 RT, has the extended cylinder and is lefthand. Unscoped and without a magazine it weighs 9lbs 3 1/2 Ozs. My Mk4S (short shroud,LH) weighs 8 Lbs. AA410 Classic (BTAS reg,LH) 7lbs.

In short, if you want to know what a gun weighs, weigh it, don't read about it.

My Daystate is now in the for sale section!;)

Reason for sale is that I want a .177!

If you like the rifle Fred get Daystate to change the calibre for you be cheaper than a new one.

Well, when I say "I", my son wants a .177! Infact he has just bought one, A S200R .177!

I don't have much time to shoot now so I thought if I got my son an air rifle he could enjoy the sport!
