Recently bought an HW95 almost new and a 99S with some wear. Have shot the HW35 and the HW77, both of which I found to be too heavy for standing target shooting. The HW95 in .177 is still a little heavy but very well balanced for hold. The gun did not like the lightweight Hobby pellets but loves the Bisley Magnums at 10.6 g.
The 95 has a satisfying "thwack" but I detected a little dieselling, so I would think it is still running in. Very well made, excellent stock, but scope mounts with a recoil pin are a must. I had fitted mounts with no recoil pin, and after 60 shots found the scope moving backwards! I have read about scope creep but this was my first experience of this. Groups of 1 inch at 25 metres easy, and with practice should improve.

The 99S, in .22 really surprised me, quite light and felt a bit twangy after the HW95 but a very accurate gun. Tried Superdomes but settled on Webley Lazerdomes at 16g. The cocking effort was surprisingly high, but I eventually worked out that you have to grip the pistol grip and move it towards the barrel as you pull the barrel down. Don't know if this makes any sense, but it certainly helps. Very impressed by the 99S as the budget end of the Weihrauch range. Could stand and shoot with it all day. Has substantial open sights, not yet tried and no need to remove them to fit a scope. Had considered stripping down the 99S but after shooting it, I will probably leave it alone. Doesn't seem to be a popular model on the Forum, but seems a very good buy to me.

Took off the scope and tried the open sights at 30 metres with Hobby pellets.
3 out of 6 in a one inch group, rest within 2 inches. A remarkably accurate gun with v. good open sights. I would not do much better with a scope!

still twangs, but do I care?

hi
could any one tell me if the hw95 has an ambidextrous beach stock when bought in its standard form ? also does it come with a built in muzzle weight and if so does it have to be removed to fit a silencer ? any other views on this rifle would be helpful to me

cheers john

The HW95 I have is not ambidextrous, has a muzzleweight which has to be removed to fit a silencer. The muzzleweight is held on with small allen bolt + loctite which has to be melted somehow (hot air paint stripper?) in order to remove.

99s a really accurate rifle and basically a 95 with sights and about 3/4" shorter chamber. Same construction .
I use mine with HW80 sights, HW Diopter, Scope and Hawke Red Dot (from Bar @£29).
Not all at same time!
Record Trigger
It does add variety and gives you several rifles in one.
The stock is basic but has a rubber recoil pad.
I would like a much fuller pistol grip.
Finish is up to HW's usual good standards.

Just finished putting the HW99s back together! Piston and seal were fine but the spring had a definite bend to it. Cleaned thoroughly, new Weirauch spring installed and correctly lubed. Much quieter now but still a beast to cock!

Probably uses the same spring as the HW95 but in a smaller cylinder, very impressive at the price. Well engineered.

When my HW99S was tested after a new standard spring was fitted it recorded 13.7 ftb.
So if you also have a ,22 you may need to trim the spring .

Thanks for the info, I was surprised at the amount of preload on the spring, ie considerable compression before cocking. I know little about springs (other than a vague memory of Hooke's law from GCE!) but would have thought that the spring would be less efficient if kept in a permanent state of part compression. As mentioned in my last post, the 99 cylinder is shorter than the 95 cylinder, yet I suspect the same spring is used in both. Any spring experts out there? Have to get the gun to my club Chrono, might try the "bar of soap test" meanwhile!
