Some of you may have seen the thread I started, (with many replies thanks) on AA410 V HW100. Well I decided at last and went for the 100, for no real reason other than it suited my needs and I like a heavy gun, having had a lifetime of big springers. On examining my lovely new toy I discovered that the receiver where the bottle screws in now has an insert, the hole has been machined out and a steel insert is in place. Wondering if I had a "one off" I phoned Hull Cartridge and was assured that all new guns from a few months ago now have this mod. This in my mind cures the only problem this fine gun might have. But being a small diameter fine thread it is still not impossible to cross thread it. Come to that there is not a thread alive that some numpty will not ruin. I am not being critical of the poor souls who have suffered the problem as a bit of grit on ally will create a torn thread. An old engieering dodge to help prevent cross threading is to "in the case of the 100" hold the gun upright and allow the bottle to rest on the receiver under it's own weight only, then gently turn the bottle "anti" clockwise till you hear and feel a click which means the thread leads have passed each other then gently "two fingers only" turn the bottle the correct way to screw it in. There should be hardly any resistance then till you reach the end of the thread when it will tighten up a bit as the valve is opened. I do hope I am not preaching to to converted but a little help might help a fellow gunner who has never screwed anything in his life!!
Can't wait to get on the range "I only have 10yds in my garden" and yes the new moderater really works, only noise is my pellet hitting the catcher.
